It's looking a bit better that the Isles will be at the Coliseum next season (assuming there is a next season, of course).

But gee, why is it only "100 percent where Jon [Ledecky], [co-owner] Scott [Malkin], Lou [Lamoriello, the team’s president and general manager] and the team want to play next year," but according to Ledecky “One thousand percent” that a deal will be made to play in the Coliseum? The math confuses me ... o_O ;)

Anyone watch the game tonight? I only checked the highlights but Varly made some nice saves.

Yeah, I watched about half of it. They looked pretty good, or maybe more accurately looked better as the game went along. Who knows what (if anything) that means, of course. We'll see starting on Saturday if this feels like any sort of playoff "atmosphere."

Watched some of it. They looked good defensively with everyone healthy again. But the PP is still garbage. Here is a question for you. Would you be happy if the Isles lost to the Panthers in the "play in round" but then won the draft lottery and got the #1 pick. I know nothing about minor league hockey or draft prospects. But from what I have read this year's #1 pick will be Alexis Lafreniere. He is a LW and from what the "experts" say he is a franchise type of player. We all know the Isles need offense. While I will watch these "playoffs" I don't think I would be too upset if the Isles lose. This isn't a real playoff anyway. Playing in an empty arena in Toronto.

I think the Isles beat the Panthers, but it wouldn’t upset me to see them lose and get the #1 pick.

it’s also why I’ll be rooting for teams like the Leafs and Penguins to win their opening round, who I’d never root for otherwise.

It's hard to root against the team while they technically have a chance to win the Cup, but let me put it this way - if they lose in the first round and then get the #1 pick, I will be very happy. I won't root against the team in the moment, but I recognize that this team has virtually no realistic shot at winning the Cup, or even getting to the finals.

I hadn't thought about that. Do I need to root for the Rangers to win their series for this reason? Yuck.

Yes, I’ll be rooting for the Rangers as well.

Good start today with a 2-1 win over the Panthers. Sucks that game 2 is Tuesday at noon as I will be at work. Good win. LGI

And then game 3 is on Wednesday at noon.

Solid game for the team. Of course, the best they can probably hope for is games like this - I doubt that there are too many blowout wins in their future this year.

Game day. LGI. I won't see this one as I am at work. Hate the 12:00 start.

Panthers come out flying, but Isles turn it around and dominate for the last 50 minutes. Eberle scores the final 2 goals to give the 4-2 win. Isles can close out the series tomorrow at noon.

Better team won today, which unfortunately was the Panthers. I suspect we'll see Greiss next game - that mistake by Varlamov to play the puck outside the trapezoid was a killer.

Have to stay out of the box. I thought the Isles were the better team 5 on 5. To many dumb penalties today. I didn't expect a sweep so up 2-1 is fine with me but I want no part of game 5. Finish them Friday. Just confirmed its another 12:00 start. Three in a row with the shitty time slot.

Good first, other than Eberle’s terrible penalty and Nelson should have made the pass to Beau on the 2-1 break.

Good 2nd period. Up 3-1 with 20 minutes to go. Hopefully they can finish this.

5-1. On to the real playoffs with Rd 1. I never counted these "play-in" games as the playoffs. I wonder who the Isles will now face.

Dominating performance. Interesting version of the handshake - gloves-on fist bump.

On to the next series, which I believe will be played in Toronto. ;)
