When Joe traded Leo to the Giants I said good move.
When Joe traded back in the second round & still got Mims, I said maybe he just got lucky.
But after the Jamal haul & fleecing of the Sea hawks I can honestly say this guy
    IS A FREAKING GENIUS :D

He's either a million times smarter than Stephen Hawking or he's the lobotomized afterbirth of Idzik's retarded donkey. Welcome to 2020.

We don't post on other team's message boards and call their fan base weird though, do we? To me, that is really weird.

I dunno about genius, but he certainly is lucky with his decision making. Time will tell if these moves amount to something or not.

He's cool as a cucumber and lets it come to him rather than trying to force things. He hasn't been perfect but he has made the most of the shitty hand his predecessors dealt him.

Just curious how you think he's lucky? He moved around the draft wonderfully -- moving back and getting more picks, but still getting one of the better WR prospects in the draft. He made some nice FA acquisitions to address the OL and revamp it. He drafted Ashtyn Davis in case we did lose Adams. He traded Adams for way more than anyone could have imagined. I don't think any of that can be called lucky? He learned from one of the best in Baltimore and it has been a pleasure to watch someone competent run our FO after years of crap.

Good post. JD dropped back 10 spots with only 3 top WRs still on the board. Was is luck Mims was still there? I doubt it. JD studied the other teams and had a really good, educated guess at who those teams would be drafting. JD would have been skewered if none of those 3 WRs were still there. But he rolled the dice on solid awareness/intelligence/nerves of steel. Long term, JD's team building ability should give the Jets an edge on talent, over teams that still have a 'John Idzik' running the show.

The old saying "sometimes it's better to be lucky than good":) I think he has shown he is a bit of both....lucky & good.....you need both to make it in this league.

  16. Problem is Jets dont need a genius. They need a team architect That knows how to draft players to build a cohesive team.JD now has the ammunition for a drastic makeover but hes gotta get this draft issue fixed

Having things break right during the draft day backwards moves certainly was lucky. Mims shouldn't have been there but he was. Getting a haul for a guy openly trying to get off the roster again was another stroke of luck. JD has taken risks and so far, they've panned out. Sometimes it really is better to be lucky than good and the Jets have rarely been lucky. Lets hope JD stays lucky and in the future, if his moves keep turning into gold and the Jets become relevant contenders consistently, call him genius. Its a long road from here to there though. Lets see how things turn out..

Or did he know the teams in front of him weren't interested in Mims and that he would be there when our pick came around? That can very well be him just being good at his job - something we have lacked at that position in what seems like a decade. I do agree with you that the genius label is definitely a bit premature, but at the same time I don't think it's fair to call him lucky. He is highly praised around the league for a reason.

It is quite foreign for the Jets to have a GM who is good at his job and one we can feel comfortable with. Assuming JD is that guy it will take time for fans to adjust. At a minimum he's on an upward curve and we should be feelin alright.

I never said JD wasn't good at his job. He's been nothing short of spectacular considering how low Macc and Idzik set the bar. Its ok to be both lucky AND good and in fact, that trait probably is one all the great GM's have in common.
