Don't forget this one: "He refused to sign DE John Abraham to a long-term deal and dealt him for a draft pick that turned out to be C Nick Mangold (29th overall). Abraham is having another injury-plagued season in Atlanta." Abraham was an overpaid, hand-held, injury-ridden, whining crybaby. Now he reincarnated his deficiencies in Atlanta. To think we were not only able to show Abraham the door but pick up Mangold in the process is priceless.
But as already stated Bradway had nothing to do with the trade, it was completed by Tannenbaum. Bradway tried to lock Abraham up long term before he did the Sean Ellis deal....
OFFENSE: Coles- He was here before he came. We let him go stupidly because he didn't tender him correctly. Cotchery- Solid pick. All GM's make solid picks. Baker- See Cotchery Houston- Bradway deserves credit for this one Kendall- Good signing, but a no-brainer. We had a hole at guard and Dennis Green released him at the last second. Jones- He's terrible. We'd still be in the same place we are right now without this guy. JMac- He wasn't worth giving up a 2nd rounder for. He looked decent in 2004 and he has been subpar ever since. DEFENSE: Vilma- How can you not take Vilma with that pick? We had a huge need for a quick linebacker and he was the best one in the draft. No brainer, doesn't deserve much credit. Hobson- He's been pretty good, what a 2nd rounder should be. Not giving him that many props for this one. Barton- He's been pretty good. Expensive, though. All said and done, good signing. Robertson- Not worth trading #13 and #22 to move up to get this guy. I don't care how good he's looked lately, he wasn't worth it. Miller- Solid pick because of his kick returning skills. No complaints. Rhodes- Excellent pick- steal. All GM's have them, though. K: Graham- Great signing... Nugent- No kicker should be drafted in the 2nd round.
Bradway was great at drafting. Herm probably made him look worse than he was. But Bradway still sucked at free agency and trades. The Coles back and forth. The Doug Jolley debacle. The LaMont controversy. All mishandled.
Yeah, but Abraham was looking for $22 Million and Bradway didn't blink. We never gave him the LT deal he wanted and instead moved on to Ellis, which was the right thing to do and which eventually led to Abe's unhappiness and the eventual trade.
Speaking of McKensie... the ones that got away, like McKensie, Jordan and Abraham to name a few, were paid big bucks. The worst of it (at the time) was the Redskins fleecing. But I do think he has an eye for talent and it's not so terrible that he's still on the staff.
He didn't make the trade but he also didn't give Abe a new deal which set up Tannenbaum to b able to trade him. Anyone who doesn't have an agenda could see Tb did a very good job for us and mangini and his staff have benfitted greatly from his moves.
Mckenzie has been an overpaid bust for the giants, Jordan has proven he's not a feature back and Abe is hurt AGAIN while we got Mangold. He was a top DT in 2004 but was hurt most of last year. he had the opportunity to lock up Abe but chose Shaun b/c Shuan was more durable and a better all-around DE.
In 2001 we won w/ mostly holdovers from the previous regimes, in '02 he made a brilliant move w/ Hosuton to get out of cap hell and re-trolled the team to win a div title, in '04 he had to re-toll the team again and again we made a playoff run then he set us up w/ most of the young talent we have now. He did a very good job for us, check Parcells' drafts from '97-'99 then look at TB's drafts and tell me what you see.
Stop rewriting history junc. Abraham declined the same deal Ellis got first, Bradway didn't "decide" to give Ellis the money because he was more durable. Also are you really trying to give a GM credit for not being able to get a deal done with a player?
He tried to get Abe cheaper, he could have signed Abe to a bigger deal but decided not to. basically they ofered the same deal to both guys and the first one to take it would stay long term. He did a great job w/ that situation.
no b/c after Ellis signed they had 2 years to sign Abe and they did not. He chose not to try to re-sign him long term, he franchised him in '05 and then he was traded in '06.
Stop spinning junc, you clearly said with your original post that Bradway "Chose" to not sign Abe, when he clearly offered him a similar deal to Ellis.
But he did try to sign him long term. If Abe would've accepted the Ellis deal then he would've been locked up long term. Bradway didn't choose to sign Ellis because he was the better DE, Abe and Ellis made that choice for him.
