Had he shown more leadership, I think they'd be more flexible. His behavior leaves a lot to be desired. Maturity is Def not his strength. Not just what he did with this team when they struggled, but even his little Twitter spat with Sherman on the cba. He just doesnt handle things well yet. Sent from my SM-N975U using Tapatalk
Jamal Adams is one of the top 3 best defensive players in Jets history He still has another 6-8 excellent years left He needs to be resigned
Just off the top of my head: Revis Klecko Gastineau Lyons Grantham Mo Lewis Abraham Kyle Clifton Gerry Philbin There's so many others, Buttle ,Salam, Baird, Fregerson, Mhel....
I’ll give you Revis for sure None of the other players are as good as Jamal Adams — he is going to be a perennial All-Pro for the next 7 years
Maybe your argument will hold water in 10 years. If he remains a Jet. Not today. About the same as you saying Juedey is a HOFer.
If Jets decide to trade him I hope it isn't the Cowboys. I would hate Adams to end up with the team he wants. Trade him to Browns please.
You'd take Marty Lyons and Kyle Clifton over Jamal Adams?!? Lyons and Clifton were very solid players. I loved them both, but come on. On pure ability, Adams is flirting with the Revis/Klecko echelon. Clifton and Lyons are two tiers below that.
There's nothing to it, but everyone wants to make a fuss out of it. The guy isn't going anywhere for 2 years. No one is getting paid from that draft class yet, not even Mahomes.
Only guy that got paid was CMC and Eddie Jackson, but Jackson was a 4th round pick so he only had one year left. If Mahomes or Watson haven’t gotten paid, then Jamal ain’t getting paid.
Eddie Jackson got paid by the Bears but he was not a 1st round pick so no option year for them to sort things out. 2020 was his last year of team control before the franchise tag. He also got paid at the top of the market so that's a table-setter as well. The Jets have been in this situation before. The Raiders paid Nnamdi Asomugha at the top of the market in 2009, guaranteeing that Darrelle Revis would hold out the following summer looking for the same as his 6 year rookie deal went into the last two seasons - which were pre-planned cap savers for the Jets. The Jets response was to sign a premature new deal with Revis that cost them on the cap from 2010-2012. The Raiders deal with Asomugha became unmanageable on the cap and they decided not to re-sign him for 2011. The Jets traded Revis in 2013 reasoning that a great CB on a bad team was an expense not worth maintaining if they could get a 1st and a 3rd for him. Both teams bottomed out at that point with the FCB's (franchise cornerbacks) being laughable markers for the management teams involved. All of the executives involved on the Jets side were gone by the end of 2014. All of the executives on the Raiders side were gone by 2011 as Al Davis passed away with another stain on his record. Note to owner/executives of professional sports franchises: if you're late in your career and your team sucks the guy who is responsible is you - even if you were one of the greats beforehand - let the next generation take over or sell the team or watch your reputation go into the trash in a lightsecond. Are you listening Jerry?
Our GM also planted that horrible seed in Revis's head that he could get paid whatever he wanted. You still need great players to win in today's league, can't let everyone go. The Eagles nowadays use the cap to resign their own.
I changed my mind on Adams when I was thinking about it recently. I don't want to trade him at all. 0%. I want him to take a team friendly deal that still makes him a top paid safety. Maybe 5 years, $75 million. Maybe $30 million guaranteed. Something like that. If he refuses, he can hold out and take penalties from the team. Or play out his 4th year, 5th year option, and then be tagged. Up to him. He can sit out too and just not play the game he loves if he wants to. That is completely fair. A player on a rookie deal should not be able to dictate where he plays.
I’m not in the trade Adams camp personally. I don’t hold it against players who want to get paid, its their right. We all ask for raises from our employers, or raise our rates if we work for ourselves as we deem fit. Players have no one. It themselves as advocates. Don’t read too much into it, it’s not like he is Yannick Ngakoue demanding a trade. Just like before, I would encourage patience.
Exactly, if we right this ship that will get him with the program, but gotta win some games this year. Sometimes winning cures all
