Rhodes deserves to be there with Ed Reed, no question. But I can't help but think that the one bad play Kerry made on the Lee Evans 71 yard TD was probably a case of really bad timing. Most of the country saw that game (a 4:15 start), and it was such a huge play. Conversely, the Jets were also hurt by not playing any games in Primetime. Next year, they'll get a Sunday night game and probably 2 Monday nighters and the Jets will have to shine on those nights and make their hay. That being said, Rhodes and Coles will definitely make the squad as alternates by the time the game arrives. Maybe even Robertson and Mangold will get a call.
I think that a majority of the votes had been cast by that time. I don't think a 1-week span would have been enough to suddenly knock him out.
You maybe be right that it cost him but I'll assure you that most of the country DID NOT see that play. I saw it on TVUPlayer. The distribution map for that week was terrible. Almost everywhere got the San Diego - Denver game.
To be honest, I felt like Kerry needed one more pick or one more sack to really register with people across the country. Still, John Lynch does not deserve to go instead.
yeah, I'm rather confident to say that nobody outside of the fanbases of the two teams saw that game or that play, and it probably wasn't on tv outside of the immediate new york area. hardly enough to cost him a Pro Bowl selection. besides, I am certain nobody outside of NY even knows who he is or is paying enough attention to him to disect his play to one play.
No, most of the country didn't see that game... I check every week because I'm always hoping to get the games out in Indianapolis. That game aired in the state of NY, western Mass, Western Conn, and New Hampshire, that was it...
People don't vote based on what they see. People vote based on the biggest named player in the league. He should've been in over Lynch and Polamalu (since Rhodes is in the box often too).
From what I heard, That wasn't Rhodes fault. The coverage was designed to have Rhodes come up and play the slant while Barrett took the deep ball away. It was a disguised coverage that the Jets were hoping that Losman and Evans would see Barrett playing deep, throw the slant only to have Kerry get the pick. Barrett screwed up from what I saw and also played the slant, leaving Evans open deep. I especially believe this to be the case cause of the limited playing time Barrett has had. If there was any room for miscommunication, I would have to believe it was Barrett that got crossed up on the call.
Look at the bright side, if we can get Rhodes under contract for the long term this offseason, it will be done without a Pro Bowl appearance to boost the signing price. It really is a totally irrelevant thing, the Pro Bowl. I would almost put more weight behind the QB Challenge.
Won't Rhodes get there anyway? The snubbed young guy is often in Hawaii. Either he's named or he goes as an injury replacement. Then Champ can say he's not a 'Real Pro-Bowler'.
Actually, Jim Miller on Sirius brought up Kerry Rhodes as a guy who should have gone this year based on his stats and on the impact he had in the games he played in. So, he hasn't completely been ignored. A lot of people talk about how guys make it to the Pro Bowl based on the previous year's performance and not really what they did THAT year. Maybe this is one of those times. Not saying it's right. Still, if Rhodes keeps up this year's form in the future, we should have a Pro Bowl safety for a while.
one play dont make you or break you. we need to get this guy some shine in the national spotlight to get him in the probowl starting with monday nights game. an hopefully then the playoffs.
Nah, he wouldn't have made it either way, the PB is about anme recognition and guys usually make it a year after they desevre it so if he has a ood year next year he'll have a better shot thought he S's in the AFC are all big name guys so it will be tough utnil Lynch retires.
He was a couple big games away from getting in. If he keeps it up he'll make it in next year (i hope)
exactly, he pegged it. we all know its a popularity contest and people get snubbed each year. nowadays if your not a household name you have to get snubbed once to get coach's attention for next yr voting. but ultimately i think it has to do with what team you play for. us being 4-12 last yr means fans dont pay attention let alone know who our safeties are.
I don't think that kept him out but boy that was a bad bite.....I think the game could have changed if that play didn't happen...
