Good deal. I thought it would have cost more. SNY Insider Ralph Vacchiano has confirmed that Flacco's deal is worth $1.5 million, though he could earn another $3 million in incentives. A few months back they estimated Flacco would cost 8 to 10 mil to sign.
Well this solves the the 'Sam is not great do we sign him anyway dilemma' that might have emerged next season. It also sets up another potential QB controversy and the Jets have managed those so well in the franchises history.
Richard Todd, Ken O'Brien, Chad Pennington and Mark Sanchez beg to differ. Each of them entered a season or more as the unqualified starter only to see the backup take the job and in each case the franchise was destabilized for years after. Bill Parcells said it best: 'when you have two starting QB's on the roster you have no starting QB's on the roster.'
I give Sam 2 bad games before that is no longer true. If they happen early in the season we might as well trade him at the deadline for what we can get. I've seen this story line before, several times no less.
Pre-hail mary he was an average QB Baltimore couldn’t wait to get rid of. Post hail-mary he was a lucky Super Bowl winning QB that Baltimore over paid for and couldn’t wait to get rid of. absolute worthless signing.
I thought the QB we drafted was the back up...oh well I'll wait for that 1st round pick we are getting for him. Lol
No shit I'm being sarcastic....when he was drafted this board was saying we had no back up so it was a great pick...worst case we develop him and trade him for a high pick...both points are moronic and we shouldn't have taken a developmental QB in the 4th round when this team has 20 holes....especially when you already have a 23 year old franchise QB you drafted 2 years ago.
There was no way every hole was getting filled in one offseason. And it never hurts to take a developmental QB who might become a trade chip in a few years over a backup who has no value. The Pats have done it multiple times.
This x1000. A lot of questionable and uninspiring moves this offseason. It's clear what Douglas is doing but what's not clear is if it will work.
I get a lot of Denver games living in AZ. He really looked cooked last year. He's attitude in the huddle and on the field was contagious. I think he brings a decidedly negative vibe to the QB room.
