First two sentences are spot on. The Jets were blown out in this game - this was Joe Montana’s coming out party so to speak. The Jets scored a couple of late cosmetic touchdowns to make the final score 37-27. This was a blow out for most of the game....
Well....O'Brien and Marino were on. I’m guessing Elway was probably there....so the logical answer would be ......drumroll ....Todd Blackledge!!! Lol
No worries - you are correct. Ryan being knocked out of that game created a result that us Jets fans still curse to this day ...
O'Brien won it won one year, even for accuracy, if I recall. Marino won it the following year. The funny part of that draft in re: O'Brien over Marino is that the Jets passed on Marino because of his questionable intelligence (Wonderlic and scholastic average). Well, if Ken O'Brien didn't look like a hayseed, I don't know what to tell ya. . Anyway, O'Brien just stood there. That was really O'Brien's main problem. If you stuck him out there in a wheelchair, his stats would probably have been roughly the same. Imagine being benched for Browning Nagle? Holy Shit. I'm fooling around a lot. It's a defense mechanism when it comes to this team, but Ken O'Brien, he was much better than OK. He just couldn't get over the hump to the next level and overcome his two fatal flaws: holding onto the ball too long and not even making an attempt to scramble. I mean, he wasn't Rex Grossman or something . . . but we did have Rick Mirer and Neil O'Donnell. Time to spike the java with barbiturates so I can cancel out the caffeine and fall asleep for good to forget it all. Goodbye, cruel world! F outta here. No way I would kill myself over the Jets and give them the satisfaction. I have to say - not kidding around at all - that I feel so different about Sam Darnold. Let me expound. I have NEVER felt this way. I don't immediately start sweating bullets with fear oozing out of my pores every time he takes a snap. I feel good things around the corner. Ordinarily I would follow that up with that it's someone with an ax, but I won't. Why? Because today is different! Why? Because it's only May! With a possibility of no football in 2020! I kid, I kid, I am so down with The Boot. Let's go.
Wow, I did not recall it being Joe Montana's coming out. Just looked it up, and you're right. He only threw six passes, but had two TD's. But what wasn't spot on on my other points? Here's a link that describes DeBerg's wacky amplifier set up that made it's debut this game. https://uni-watch.com/2011/10/18/the-curious-case-of-steve-debergs-microphone-and-speaker/
I was just funning with you, I knew who won it lol Marino won it the next two years btw. A lot of guys on here say Marino was overlooked due to coke head rumours? I have a good feeling about Darnold as well, fingers crossed this improved OL will see him shine.
Goddamn it, I fall for it almost every time. I should always expect that just because you're English. Always pulling someone's leg with a straight face. "Did you hear such and such chap's Mum died?" "Oh, no. I did not hear that." "Of course you didn't! It's because she's alive and well!" :/
Oh I figured you were right I just personally didn’t remember the amplifier. What I remember most about the game was the blowout, Joe Montana, and that silly stat - Todd completed 42 passes and it was a record for years. Very misleading - most were dink passes long after the game was already decided.
Yeah and didn’t Gaines break his leg towards the end of that game? Maybe it was during the next game or two but that was the last time Gaines ever played for the Jets. From record breaking to see ya later LOL
