The $1 million dollar offer was a formality. I truly believe the front office doesn't even want him to accept. If they truly believe that he is damaged goods then he isn't worth anything to this team. Every down he plays is just delaying the inevitable. Delaying the fact that he is not going to be the QB of the future. I think that the Jets will cut pennington this week and move on.

So if they do cut him, then KUDOS to Woody Johnson. Its his money on the line here. Chad would have probably ultimately ended up taking some type of cut, putting some dollars back in Woody's pocket. But if they cut him then we should all get off Woody's case and realize that he is letting his guys do what needs to be done. Shelling out $12 million dollars to a guy that is no longer on your team is probably a tough pill to swallow.

Yeah great job Woody, start a rebuild with no cap money

It is like building a foundation with cheap cement, it is bound to fail.

$1M offer is not a formality.

If they didn't want him back, they'd just cut him.

They want to meet somewhere in the middle, closer to their side.. I say they end up settling by giving him a guaranteed 2M.

No, rebuilding around a QB with a bad arm is better plug to your analogy.

No you are wrong, I have hope but am not delusional, I am worried about the $12 mil cap hit that will come with cutting him, along with the fact of having to pay an additional 4-5 mil to a 1st round Qb as well as maybe another 1-2 mil on a FA QB, with an oline that is looking more like swiss cheese each day, with no playmakers, while a QB is the most important piece of the puzzle, it isn't the only piece.

I think that both sides has to met in the middle, or neither side will get what they want.

Most of the league thinks that Pennington is finished and a backup at best from here on out. Read a quote this morning from an NFL insider, saying the only guy who thinks he is a starting QB is in KC right now. So with that being said, why would Mangini want him in the mix? Why would he want to creat a QB controversy with someone he doesn't want in the first place? Don't you think they would have endorsed Chad by now if they wanted him around? Take the hit and move on.

Because the huge cap hit will hinder the development of our needed rebuild, no matter what who we will have at QB, will get killed back there, now would you rather have the sacrificial lamb in Penny or have a 1st round QB which could lead to a huge loss in his confidence. If you get Penny to take a pay cut, we may never have to deal with the cap hell that will come from cutting him, and this is more than a 1 year rebuild job, and with the recent trend in the NFL you don't have to start the rebuilding process with the QB.

Sign and trade, its the only way we get something back, and something is better than nothing at all. To tell you the truth shouldn't badwit give up something seeing it was his deal with chad and c-mart, givin all the money to them.

Noone in the league not even Herm will trade for or sign Chad its either Jets or bust. The Jets should play hardball with him if he refuses to renegotiate.I like Chad always thought he was a smart qb with a decent arm who rarely made a mistake.

If we cut Chad it doesn't automatically mean a rookie QB HAS to play...

Nobody thinks Woody is cheap. Just an inept, stumblebum whose inherited wealth shielded him from realty and susceptable to falling in love with corporate yes men empty suits like Jay Cross, Terry Bradway and Mike Tannenbaum..... Accountablility? Hah, they are all still there. Why?

There is no "cap hit" by cutting him. If we cut him, it is the same cap charge if we were to keep him. Some reports (I believe it was Cimini) say that we could actually SAVE $3M on the cap this year if we cut him before 3/2, but I'm not sure.
