If Joe Shmoe, former offensive coordinator of the Packers had the same season as HC of the Jets last year that Adam Gase has most Jets fans would be ready to enshrine him in the HOF. The fact that it was Adam Gase and the majority wanted him fired after his first press conference everyone wants him fired. The fact is he did a hell of a job with that team last year, the GM that everyone loves loves him and he’ll be here two more years minimum, hopefully more.
1-7 to 7-9 when the media made it sound like the team was teetering on the edge of locker room mutiny is nothing short of a minor miracle. Minus the quarterback for three games, two guards, a backup center, a rotation at right tackle and the worst skill position players in the NFL it was remarkable we didn't finish 3-13. Let's see what Gase does this year. It's a big year for him. He got his guys in and a general manager that has a clue. I also remember there being a narrative that Gase pushes free agents away. What happened to that?
Since when does rooting for the team preclude wanting what's best for the team? Gase is not the best for the team. You can hope thay he is - hell, even I hope that he is - but that doesn't change the facts of his actual record and performance. I like the offseason too. Guess what? most of that has nothing to do with Gase's decisions. It's been Douglas. I like how Sam ended the season too, but that was IN SPITE OF what Gase did, not because of it. If Gase continues to be Gase, this team will suck.
No, not a miracle, even of the minor variety. Because of Gase they lost to two teams that were winless and trying to tank. It was an historically weak schedule, not just based on W/L of opponents, but of no travel outside their normal time zone. Aside from opening drives for which he had days to prepare, he showed almost no ability to adjust to actual game conditions and player performances. And this wasn't an aberration, due to injuries or shitty rosters, this is Gase's track record. The one thing I agree with you is this: "Let's see what Gase does this year. It's a big year for him. He got his guys in and a general manager that has a clue"
Why doesn't every team score on their opening drives if it were so easy? It wasn't a historically easy schedule, CC. Don't forget that the Dolphins team that was 'trying to tank' beat two playoff teams down the stretch (Eagles + Pats), the Colts that were a game and a half out. The Bengals were in no way shape or form trying to tank, they just had atrocious offensive line play - nearly worse than ours. They put all their chips in the beating the Jets basket so they didn't get historically remembered. That game was a disgrace but it is what it is. Awful teams beat good teams in shocker games, let alone shitty rosters like we had. If you'd like I'll repost the examples of such again.
Let’s also remember it was a historically easy schedule and he managed to lose to two winless teams late in the season and barely beat a bulls team playing al of its backups.
Where are you getting historically easy schedule? It was the easiest schedule in the league. I'd like to see this historical data.
For me, I did not like the hire but I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt. CC as you stated his PC and lack of adjustments in game, not playing to his players strengths, etc. was a problem and it was especially for me. Indeed, wasn't the O terrible until SAM ask for changes? I believe so, so why did it take a second year QB to tell the HC/PC/OC that its not working? Maybe some of these defenders can help me with this? Also, maybe they can explain why he believes in a system that has been in the bottom of the league most years? Or why he sits by himself on the bench (and he did this more the once last year) not interacting with anyone maybe diagraming plays; who knows? There is noting wrong with having confidence if yourself based on your abilities and your success; however, a 30-35 record is not success. Finally, Biggs, remember this. He had his players in Miami and they were still bottom of the barrel O. So irrespective of last years circumstances (which we all know was mind boggling) my expectations for this year are not high because after 53 years of watching this team in Shea Stadium, Polo Grounds and Meadowlands and now remotely, I seen my share of shitty coaches and frankly... IMHO AG seems to fit that perception. Frankly, I hope I am wrong... time will tell.
He had a couple players in Miami. He also had a backup quarter over half of his time in Miami including Jay Cutler who was sitting on his couch and coaxed out of retirement. He doesn't have excuses this year if there's not a significant offensive improvement. He had an incredibly tough draw last year. I'm really tired of people using that fluff piece about Darnold running into his offense as a sticking point against him. It's silly. It's an overdramatized editorial that's promoting their relationship. If that's really all people have against Gase then they are just nitpicking.
it is in the link but i can see you did not really read thru it.. the below is not publicly bashing but enough that it is on the record. Note they did not come out and disavow anything. He lost that locker room because he is an ahole. like I said it has nothing to do with personality for me he could be the worlds largest ass, all is forgiven if he wins. Lose and be a ahole and that is when the issue starts. All I read on any board is excuses for gase on why he has not succeeded, injuries, bad players. He helped pick those players if they did not perform that is partially on him. If the qb fails because he can't throw the ball why is Gase putting him out there? If the center can't block why did they persist in that bad experiment? Never once have I read that gase did a bad job in preparing the team from Gase defenders never once have I heard he failed to prepare the player or put them into position to succeed. Maybe just maybe after 5 yrs of failing offenses the issue is not the player but on the coach as well? "So what do I hear? I heard a surprising number of veterans, including SURPRISING ones like Frank Gore, Kenny Stills, and especially Cameron Wake, all rose up and disavowed Gase privately. Wake and Stills directly to Steve Ross. Kenyan Drake wanted a trade if Gase remained. — Chris Kouffman (@ckparrot) December 31, 2018" But again what you fail to really try to counter point in any of this or any one who really supports this coach is for an offensive genius in the bottom of the league for 5 yrs running is an issue. Injuries or not all that stuff is excuses. Manning bailed him out time after time in Denver and he has been living off of that reputation for the last 4 + yrs. Your telling me a coach that has one winning season, is supposed to be an offensive genius and fails by any metric or standard you can give for measuring an offense is deserving of being a head coach? If so I want to work in that place where failure is acceptable. Once in five yrs do what you are supposed to do well for one entire yr and finish in the top 5 until then he is a bad coach and the metrics prove it. Like I said he can be the worlds largest ass I could not care less but win do what you are touted to do put out a product on the offensive side of the ball that actually plays and scores like a top offensive team not just here but in Miami as well. There was a reason they fired him there.
The Draft is over and the Gase Apologists are ramping up the excusitis for his head coaching in 2019. Going forward he has all positions of need covered by his buddy JD Simply put Adam Gase has to win more games in 2020 and to hell with bitching over our schedule
That does not excuse for the lack of preperation on the offensive side of the ball. The lack of production is more the point of poor play calling made by gase and has to do with gase's coaching ability then the roster. Point... gase brought the back up last yr in from Miami where he coached him the yr before, 1string goes down 2nd string goes down they play the kid Gase brought with him from miami and coached going on 2 yrs at this point. Nobody expected to win but we expecte a team that showed up and tried the defense did a good job, the special teams did a good job in fact those 2 units did well and looked prepared is due to coaching. What did the offense do again? how did the young qb look, so good they cut him a few weeks later so either that is a poor judge of talent coupled with not putting the player into position to succeed. And I call bs on your last statement how many nfl jobs are there 32 so your telling me 32 jobs only 32 in the world and someone would not come because or the lack of a coach. Crap if that is case that guy is a loser any way with no will or drive Succeed. IDK if you were in the military but there is mantra in the Army when I was in Lead, Follow or GTFO (get the f*() out of the way) Meaning your a leader so do your job you are not going to win every battle but to be successful you must win enough to keep that job on what you are good at, follow (until your turns comes up, and try like the dickens) or get out as you are taking up space. Anyone who has the chops to become a GM or head coach would not say no to one of the only 32 positions in the world. If you did you are not a leader or a follow and you are taking up space Ego driven people like coaches and gms want that shot want to be the guy to turn stuff around. The real reason the gm got 6 yrs is because he was hedging his bets because he looked at the coaching history of gase and did not want to be tide to a career loser. and yes I said career loser because until he gets his record above 500 that is exactly what he is ..what his record and offense states bottom 5 offense for 5 yrs running and a losing record. I am Jet fan but be real don't give anyone props until they actually succeed at something they were hired to be good at (like offensive guru titles when his offense can barely perform at idiot savant levels)
No matter who are coach is if we do not go undefeated there will be a group on this board calling for the coach's head. Lets see how long it takes people to start calling for JD 's head. This fan base is amazing. The Jets went 7-9 last year and should have been 8-8. It was a good bounce back and 3 games better than the year before. Lets at least wait to we loss a couple games next year before calling for his head. You continue bashing if that makes you feel better then you can say I told you so if the Jets play poorly next year.
I think all most of us want is competency from our head coach. Is that too much to ask for? We've been void of it for a decade and even more if you don't want to count Rex. I guarantee you if we won 5 games but our offensive showed signs of legitimate improvement and potential for more than 3 games we'd be fine. I know I would.
There's no salary cap for the military. They haven't had a good draft since 1940. One of the greatest drafts in USA history.
Thank you for posting what I been thinking about over and over. Absolutely, positively spot on. I never seen hate run so deep for a new coach, mostly based on the Miami cluster fuck. I will go a step further....if Bowles was still the coach, he would have been praised and gotten an extension for that miracle. Now mark my words, if Adams has a winning season, the Gase haters that also point out we have a bottom of the barrel group of players will come forth with the very excuses they have consistently mocked or quoted in the past. “Sooo unlucky” “ ease of schedule” “ it was all defense” and the rest of the one sided BS. I for one think we will be far more competitive on our division, we will field a better squad, and wish Gase nothing but success. He is our HC and want him to succeed. Fuck the past. Time will tell, but He has my vote this past season.
I never said it was "easy", I said that given a week to prepare, Gase seems to be able to do that. Sadly, an actual game is not like playing chess by mail...you have to make moves and react to moves in seconds, not days. It was an historically easy schedule by virtue of the fact that when was the last time they never traveled out of their time zone for the entire season? Yes, I admit exaggerating about the tanking, but it doesn't change the fact that both Miami and the Bengals were winless and sucked. And IIRC, losing to two winless teams in a season was a first. The reality is that the Jets were unprepared and that falls directly on Gase. Aside from being hopeful and trying to be optimistic, I really don't get why you're ignoring Gases' actual record and performance. The things I and others are concerned about with him have nothing to do with injuries or quality of players, they have to do with how he handles all of that, which is poorly.
