Maybe this is why some guys haven’t been signed yet didn’t know https://profootballtalk.nbcsports.c...tor-into-compensatory-draft-pick-formula/amp/
Yes the window is only until the draft, but I sort of doubt Clowney is in our future at this point. I could be wrong.
Hardly matters for us. We probably aren’t getting any comp picks next year. The only FA of value we lost is Robby while bringing in Perriman, Fant and McGovern plus lower salaried guys like Desir and Van Roten.
I'm pretty sure that rule has been in place for quite a while. The exact date may have changed but I know the last few years the date was some time right after the draft, I think 2018 was around May 8th
It does make you wonder with the number of one year contracts we had guys sign. The Raven way was always to get comp picks and build through draft. I hope we have the depth to begin to do so next offseason. There are still some decent vets available now. Next year with less pressing needs, hopefully, we may be able to get depth guys later in the year while if several of our expiring contract guys sign early could result in comp picks.
And next year when we have a ton of cap space you have to imagine we will not be eligible for comp picks as we will likely get a bunch of free agents, especially bc we will probably have a bunch of holes to fill based on all of the one year deals we have signed players to.
Will we have that space? Only if most of those 1 year deals don’t prove out. I’d imagine some of that space will go to the players that deserve more. Adams new deal will likely be in next years cap. Pool and Jordan will hopefully be getting longer deals they earn. Perriman too. if we have a bunch of space and have to go shopping next year it was a disappointing season .
Nothing predicted for 2021 http://www.nfl.com/news/story/0ap30...-compensatory-pick-projections-for-every-team
Shell actually got a decent pay day. Roberts, Copeland, Compton and some others got picked up on lower salaries. But all in all you are right, we spent more than we lost, so we a'int getting a comp pick. I wonder if Douglas signed a lot of 1 year deals with potential future comp picks in mind. We will no doubt be spending some next year as well tho, so it may still end up net zero.
good point. If we re-sign a lot of our own, including some of those 1 year deal guys, we could end up with a deficit needed to gain a pick. and hopefully we want to re-sign those guys lol!
We need some guys to be worth resigning and also some draft picks to step up in key roles. Davis has to make Maye expendable, anyone make winters expendable, hall and bless need to make desir and Wilson expendable maybe Jenkins leaves because of zuniga. Edoga outplays fant . If all that happens. We resign Poole and perriman, we look good for 2022 comp picks.
