nice work...i just hope we win 2 to really press the case...hell, just think if we had won the games we should have vs cle and last week possibly, then we would be sitting alright...nothing like a tight finish to get the blood pumping.
Awesome job summing everything up...i was playing out the scenarios and it is 100% going to come down to week 17. It is impossible to be eliminated and it is impossible to clinch anything. If we had won the Bills game we could have clinched.
No I don't beg to differ. I made MAJOR quick typing errors while I was rushing out, and didn't notice my mistakes. JI2004 is correct 100%, exactly what I meant to say but absolutely screwed up by saying the exact opposite team. (subsituted Indi with Cinci, NE with Jax)
But most of us thought your work was an absolute stroke of genius, Rob! I thought keeping Bill Belichick and the rest of the opposition guessing as to why we would be rooting that way was an excellent game plan! And lulling them to sleep by making them think we were confused and didn't care, while all along we knew exactly what we were doing... well... this was priceless! These other guys don't know what they're talking about!
Sad to say, but these things just come to me without much thinking, so I'll keep you guys abreast of what's going on. For my fantasy league, I did this with 3 weeks to go, and people thought I was nuts.
Rats! This was the thread I wanted to make and would have made if I had more time on my hands. I did do a fancy post last night with different color typeface for the three most likely Jets-gettin'-in-the-playoffs scenarios and what not. Alas, I didn't have enough time to figure out the Jets at 9-7 scenarios and thus, did not create such a thread. Based upon what I think will occur tonight (Bengals win over Colts), I see the following as the most likely way for the Jets to qualify for the postseason- Bengals beat Broncos Jets beat Dolphins Jets beat Raiders Jaguars lose a game Now, should the Bengals lose tonight, it will change some things around. As stated here by numerous people, a Bengals loss tonight can only help the Jets. However, a Bengals win tonight does not doom the Jets. What I am annoyed with is this: Bengals at Colts, Monday, 12/18 Bengals at Broncos, Sunday, 12/24 The league rarely schedules a road Monday Night team to play on the road six days later. It happened only one other time this season. The Giants were in the same predicament on 11/20 at Jacksonville and then on 11/26 at Tennessee. The Saints had the same problem on 9/19 and 9/25 of 2005 (vs Giants and Vikings). Originally, they were scheduled to play the Giants on 9/18 in New Orleans. The game was moved to New Jersey for Monday Night Football and the Saints got doubly screwed because they had to play at Minnesota six days later. Outside of these three examples, there are not too many times in recent memory when the league put a team on the road on a Monday night and had them play on the road six days later. I actually can do the research. If I have time this week I will do so. I will look at every MNF game since 1970 and see how often the road team had to play again on the road six days later. I betcha it is a very small number of times. My point here is if the Bengals win tonight against the Colts, we will have to root hard for them next Sunday in Denver. Cincinnati would be doing so with less rest than the Broncos. That is not a good thing. Damn schedule.
I'd like to correct myself. I heard that the Giants do not have control their own destiny. I heard on the radio that there is a 3-way tiebreak scenerio involving the Giants, Falcons, and I think the Eagles (if they lose to the Cowboys) that can knock out the Giants.
The Bengals will LOSE tonight and help the Jets. Then the winner of next week's game is 9-6 and the loser is 8-7.
I don't know Jax is one of the best home teams in the league. They allow like under 10 points a game at home. I could see them beating NE.
I don't see how the Colts will stop the Bengals offense. They couldn't last year and their defense is worse now. The Bengals seemed very nervous in the first half of the game on 11/20/05. The Colts scored touchdowns on their first five possessions and led 35-17 in the 2nd quarter. The Bengals were stunned early. Once they settled down they mounted a comeback, but fell short by a score of 45-37. I could see the reverse happening tonight considering the fact the Colts have played lackluster football lately, the Bengals are hot, and the game means more to the Bengals considering the fact the Colts have clinched a division title. I understand the Colts are in the running for getting a first round bye, but they will still not play this game with the same edge that the Bengals will. Obviously, I hope to be wrong.
I like the Bengals in this match-up. They are winning the games they have to. No let downs. Plus Indy is frail at this point. No help from Cincy I'm afraid. (crossin fingers)
So if Indy wins today, Jags lose to NE next week, and we win beat miami... it will be then we control our own destiny... Beat the Raiders and were in!!!!!!!!!!
my only hope is that we don't look back on this thread as naively optimistic the morning after the Miami game
It is possible, but I just can't see it... If they did lose, it would signal a little weakness in the Pats to me.. I don't know why, but I know the Pats of 2-3 yrs ago would walk in there in win.
Imagine the nightmare scenario. Jets- win, win Bengals- win, lose, win Broncos- win, win Patriots- win a game (any other games involving AFC playoff hopefuls would be meaningless as far as the Jets hopes are concerned under this nightmare scenario) Jets, Bengals, Broncos would all be at 10-6. Jets wouldn't make playoffs.
Wow, my head is aching and one eye is twitching from all the scenarios .I'm just hoping for a Jets W for Xmas, then they can win the next week, too.
great post. That Buffalo game last weekend is going to kill the Jets. Damn shame the way that game turned out.
in case no one posted this..... if colts win tonight, then its a 4 way tie for the final 2 spots. the biggest thing is that Cincinnati plays at Denver in week 16, so the loser will be eliminated. the jags plays the Pats in foxbro and Jets play the Fins.
While I think that the most likely playoff scenario is that NE beats Jacksonville and the loser of Cincinatti Denver also falls by the wayside, I am curious about how my fellow Jets fans feel about the last week of the schedule. Let's say that Jacksonville does beat the Patriots. Which game would you want our playoff hopes riding on in the final week? Titans over Pats for the division? KC over Jacksonville for the wild card? Pittsburgh over Cincinatti for the wild card? SF over Denver for the Wild Card? Although I think the Titans have the best chance in those four games I am rooting for the Pats this week. Just imagine needing KC to get us in the playoffs (lol). Thanks to the Colts winning tonight, a Pats victory means that winning out will guarantee us a playoff spot.
