Just because we've had terrible drafting for a decade by two previous regimes doesn't mean that the way to win in the NFL isn't by winning the draft. Adams doesn't play center field and make teams throw away from him. He doesn't come screaming across the field and pick balls off. Neither of our safeties do. He's not going to magically turn into that sort of player. He's a really good strong safety. He hits hard, he blitzes well and he covers tightends well. That doesn't make him a bad player. I just don't believe in paying anyone in the secondary the money he's going to want because the return is generally not worth it. Especially when he has a lot of value (or so we think). No one's advocating for trading him for a third rounder and being done with it.
Troy got the Steelers to the SB in 2008, without his play they don't win their 6th SB. He was the main reason they got there. Safeties that have that level of impact are huge on the defensive side of the ball. Those players played an integral role. If we get our shit together Adams can be in the same category.
You're right man. It's sad. Football is a violent game. Jamal Adams plays as tough as hard as fast and as aggressive as any defensive back in today's game but yet, when banged up you'll have know it all critics who've probably never played a down of football now claiming that he's "faking an injury"; it's pathetic and laughable. Jamal Adams ain't never fake no freaking injury. Not in H.S, now with LSU in college for a matter of fact it was his teammate LEONARD who choose to sit out for a Payday; but Jamal Adams played. Hasn't "faked an injury" for our Jets either.
I agree with what you said. I don't think that was a serious response I think he was just being sarcastic. Probably a butt hurt Leonard Williams/Quincy Enunwa maniacal fan. LOL
Rather than start a new thread I figured this belonged here: https://nypost.com/2020/04/09/jets-mailbag-scenario-in-which-joe-douglas-could-trade-jamal-adams/ "Joe Douglas has said he wants to sign Jamal Adams to a long-term deal. However, if the Jets are offered a top-20 pick this year and two second-round picks (this year and next year), do you think the Jets should make that deal, given all the holes on their roster and because Adams will likely cost them around $14M a year in a long-term deal (a lot for a safety)? — Joe Fiore The Jamal Adams trade debate has been stirred up again by some recent speculation out of Dallas that the Cowboys might again making a run at their hometown player. I believe the Jets really do want to sign Adams long-term. They’re not just blowing smoke. However, the offer you lay out is awfully tempting. That is what the Jets were seeking in October for Adams at the trade deadline, and the Cowboys did not go for it. Jamal Adams responds to Joe Douglas' bold Jets claim Let’s say the Cowboys now have a change of heart and really want Adams. They have the No. 17 pick in the first round and their second-round pick is No. 51 overall. If the Jets did that, they would have six picks in the top 80, giving Douglas the chance to fill several holes. He would be creating a new one by trading Adams, but I think I would make that deal." DISCLAIMER: The trade floated in this piece has not actually been offered AFAIK, it's just one fan's speculation. That said, since we're all sitting around and tossing B.S. around, I thought I'd offer this up for discussion to see if anyone has changed their minds on this, or is everyone still glued to their original opinions. I guess count me in the latter category. While Adams is a great player, he's not going to lead the Jets to the SB. If the Cowboys offered a package like this, Douglas should jump on it. Getting another 1st round pick, and having 6 picks in the top 80 would give JD a huge chance to remake this team in the way he wants it. I think the loss of an All Pro Safety is worth it.
It’s tempting but it’s not often you have the best player in the league at his position. And I truly believe he is. You don’t need an all-pro safety but if you have one I don’t think Id want to give him up. There’s no way to tell because we haven’t played under Gregg Williams with this roster without Jamal yet and probably never will but I’m willing to bet that he masks a lot of issues that we would have otherwise. It could also be because I have no faith whatsoever that the Jets franchise can draft well 6 times in a row.
Just 1 and I will drive him myself. He will ask for crazy money. No reason to tie that much money for a Safety. Ship him out.
This is kind of where I'm at. Again, you don't NEED an all-pro safety but if you have the best one in the league I don't see a reason to move on from him in hopes that you can replace him with starters elsewhere.
Nah. 1 is not enough. He is the best safety in the league and has only been in the league for three years. There is no reason to not think he can get to TP level, but a 1+2 this year and a 2 next year is a boatload of picks. Anything less than that and I would just hang up the phone.
I'm not opposed to an Adams trade but I am not giving him up for the 17 and the 51. The deal has to be better than that to trade a 25 year old All-Pro SS who is reliably under team control for 3 more seasons.
The position of the picks is also important. 17 and 51 is very meh in a deal for a young superstar. If Jamal Adams played for a good team he would be a household name right now across the country, much like Troy Polamalu was. He's playing for a bad team and he's one of the more recognizable young NFL names. Imagine if he was playing for the 49ers or Chiefs?
My argument would be if that he is the best player at his position, the money paid out is well worth it $14M /yr? Do it now before it goes higher.
Yeah, but he's not really under team control for 3 more seasons. If they don't renegotiate his contract to his liking, he's going to make waves. He's already proven he's not shy about making waves. This is one of the reasons I would ship him now for the right offer.
