Probably not the worst move since we are staring at no otas, no mini camps and a possible abridged training camp.
AS BS said this guy sucks... he is terrible. AG touted this guy as knowing his SYSTEM and he looked like a HS QB last year... what a fucking joke AG is.
Didn't say if it was guaranteed. He could be the third guy. Who knows at this point. I'd expect them to add someone else before minicamp.
my guess is he can run a practice without having to be tutored on the language saving vital minutes. Familiarity is going to be a big thing this year.
If he is expected to be the #2 next year it's time to start focusing on 2021. Matt Moore would make more sense.
Who's a viable back-up QB that would come in on a reasonable contract? Mike Glennon Blaine Gabbert Matt Moore None of these names are going to get anyone too excited, but for a game or 2, they may work out.
At least the three of them have had some level of success at the NFL level (like, won a friggen game, thrown more than 1 TD and more than 50 passes). They are in stark contract to Fales who to this point has only played in one system that hasn't even been successful outside of one year.
I'm assuming you meant who do I want to be the QB2? Because we won't carry 4. We might not even carry 3. I would have taken any of Bortles, Moore, Gabbert, Glennon and the longshot of a vet like Flacco. I mean literally anyone with some NFL experience would be nice. I'm going to give Gase/Douglas the benefit of the doubt here and assume that they signed him as a camp body.
And they would all come at a higher price tag. Again, who gives a fuck? It's the #2 QB. If you have to worry about the level of talent you sign at backup QB, then you have a lot more problems than you would like to admit
The QB 2 doesn't really matter when you have a bad coach and incomplete roster. Teams with good coaches can at least make progress with a backup. Steelers were down to their third stringer and wre one loss to us away from the playoffs. Carolina had to fall back on Kyle Allen who at the very least looked competent. The Jaguars, the Eagles, the Saints. I mean you can pretend backup QBs don't matter but they do.
