Just a few quotes on Christian and what he can bring... Christian returned to a special teams role in 2017 and contributed to the Rams’ run to the NFC West title before suffering a shoulder injury. Last season, he backed up Lamarcus Joyner and John Johnson and also played as a hybrid linebacker as the Rams won another division title and advanced to the Super Bowl. “He’s an active player that we can plug in to play different positions,” defensive coordinator Wade Phillips said. “He’s a good blitzer. He can cover tight ends man-to-man. We try to utilize him in certain roles, and he comes in and does that well.” Linebacker Cory Littleton signed with the Rams as an undrafted free agent in 2016. He remembers rooming with Christian after the Rams claimed him, and navigating the NFL as rookies. “He’s been pushing all the time and he’s been able to get onto the field and show what he can do,” Littleton said. “He just comes in and works every day.”
Special teams. Played all 16 games last year and recorded 36 tackles in a special teams/rotational role.
Good signing. You need lunch pail guys. Special teams are hugely important and he can play when other teams line up 4 WR.
Depth is always a nice thing to look for but it's a nice feeling knowing we no longer have to worry about our Safety position(s) anymore. And believe it or not but Marcus Maye has now started and played all 16 games during 2/3 seasons and coming off another full 16 game season (him being "injury prone" was nothing more than a false myth from certain Jet fans to begin with). The N.Y Jets have without question the best Safety tandem and Safety duo within the entire league in Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye. I've often wondered especially since drafting #33 Jamal Adams... What if Rex Ryan during our 2009 and 2010 postseason runs had both Jamal Adams and Marcus Maye set in stone as his SS/FS )along with #24 Darrelle Revis) instead of having to shuffle around the likes of Kerry Rhodes/Jim Leonard/Eric Smith and then Brodney Pool/Eric Smith/Jim Leonard/Dwight Lowery? I can't imagine.
You seem to have this obsession with “best tandem” or “best duo” If I had to take a wild guess you were really into the Revis-Cromartie and Marshall-Decker pairings as well.
It’s all weird. Granted the demands could have been unreasonable but were not exactly a prime destination for free agents here.
