Cap Room currently around 35mil less 10 for rookies = 25 mil doesn't include jenkins or onwuasor jenkins deal reported 1 yr 5 mil onwuasor no reported value yet est around 4 mil total left 16mil Possible cuts williamson (likely) save 6.5 mil winters (possible) save 7 mil Bellamy (likely) save 1.3 mil Possible added room 14.8 mil possible cap total 30.8 mil to sign more free agents or carry over into 2021 Current Projected 53 man Roster (Pre-Draft) Offense (24) QB Sam Darnold Mike White RB Le’Veon Bell Trenton Cannon Josh Adams TE Christopher Herndon IV Ryan Griffin Daniel Brown Trevon Wesco WR Breshad Perriman Quincy Enunwa Jamison Crowder Vincent Smith Braxton Berrios Josh Doctson OT George Fant Chuma Edoga Conor McDermott OG Alex Lewis Greg Van Roten Brian Winters Josh Andrews C Connor McGovern Jonotthan Harrison Defense (26) DE Quinnen Williams Henry Anderson Kyle Phillips Nathan Shepherd John Franklin-Myers NT Steve McLendon Folorunso Fatukasi OLB Jordan Jenkins Frankie Luvu Tarell Basham Jordan Willis ILB Avery Williamson Blake Cashman Patrick Onwuasor CJ Mosley Neville Hewitt CB Pierre Desir Brian Poole Blessuan Austin Arthur Maulet Nate Hairston Kyron Brown S Jamal Adams Marqui Christian Marcus Maye Matthias Farley Special Teams (3) K Brett Maher P Ian Berryman LS -42 Thomas Hennessy Will need to make room for at least 5 draft picks (rounds 1,2,3,3,4) maybe more or later picks could be PS or FA Possible bubble guys on this list Winters (saves too much cap room. we could land a guard easily in the draft plus we have line flexibility and could/should draft o-line with our 1st pick) Qunicy (could be IR'd to save a spot and we likely draft 2 WRs but at least 1 in this deep class) Doctson or smith (if we draft multiple WRs those would be the bubble guys) McDermott (if we draft a OT 1st round I doubt we keep 4) Willis (if we add an edge rusher) Brown or maulet (if we draft a CB which we should) Williamson (saves 6.5 mil and we just signed his replacement. I expect him to be gone pre-draft. hewitt and cashman are the backups) assuming we release these players iour cap will be around 30.8 already accounting for rookies. Possible FA's still available that fill needs (biggest needs. OT, WR, Edge, CB) Edge rushers Clowney - best edge rusher left on the market. would cost a lot but he isn't getting what he expected. could maybe get him at 15/mil would be a great move for the defense even if a bit pricey. could structure the deal with an out after 2-3 years Ansah - a bit older and injury prone but performs as a pass rusher well when on the field and won't cost a ton. probably take a 1 year deal around 8 mil CB - mostly older guys but we are desperate. most would be 1-2 year stop gaps Xavier Rhodes Aqib Talib Prince Amukamura Ronald Darby Mo Claiborne DRC WR - nothing of worth really. could make a case for DT since he played with sam last year. gordon is too risky and not what he once was. better off looking at the draft here DT paul richardson josh gordon o-line - again better looking at the draft here Greg robinson - didn't play well last year but has been a good LT most of his career Iupati - would happily sign him and cut winters despite being 33 So current plan of action Sign clowney (5 year deal, out in year 2 or 3, 15mil a year avg) Sign Iupati (2 years 16 mil total, release winters it evens out the cap) Sign 1 of the CBs above on a 1 year deal release willis, winters, maulet to make room. Draft needs OT 1st CB 2nd WR 3rd, and 3rd rest of the picks QB (groom a back-up) RB and whatever else Edit: need to make some adjustments to cap room. we have less then i seen due to other contracts not accounted for yet. also did an early mock draft using the draft game Your Picks: Round 1 Pick 11: Tristan Wirfs, OT, Iowa (A) Round 2 Pick 16: Jaylon Johnson, CB, Utah (A) Round 3 Pick 4: Antonio Gandy-Golden, WR, Liberty (A) Round 3 Pick 15: Chase Claypool, WR, Notre Dame (A) Round 4 Pick 14: Willie Gay, OLB, Mississippi State (A+) Round 5 Pick 12: Ben Bartch, OT, St. John's (A+) Round 6 Pick 12: Jake Luton, QB, Oregon State (A+) Round 6 Pick 32: Joshua Kelley, RB, UCLA (A)
i agree out 1st pick should be a franchise LT 2nd pick i'd go CB. WR is very deep and we can get 2 good ones with both of our 3rd rounders. unless a 1st round quality WR falls into the 2nd (like metcalf did last year) i'd grab a CB which isn't as deep this year and will fall off harder after the 2nd round.
You are correct - after the second round the CBs remaining are probably not starting material at least not in 2020. The Jets need to pluck a CB who can start right away. They can double dip in the 3rd round at WR and still come away with at least one of them being first round material in a normal year. This year the draft features so many WRs there will be plenty left in the 3rd round with first round grades.
I can't imagine we're going to be signing that many more players. I'd like another lower tier receiver (Keelan Cole if he wasn't tendered is my choice) to bring into camp. We're not required to spend the rest of it. It'd probably be good for a change to roll some over or extend Adams with remaining cap space.
Idk. WR is deep but there will be a run on then in the first and second rounds. I think the the best bet is go OT if one of the big 4 are available at 11 then go WR in round 2. A likely scenario which I would love would be Thomas in the first and Aiyuk in the second. This play RT if Fant can prove himself or can slide to LT if he can't. Aiyuk becomes Sam's number 1 for the next 7 years.
IMO Douglas needs to sign a decent veteran backup. Mike White is only a 2nd year player, and may not even be good enough for the 3rd QB spot. Some of the remaining cap space needs to be used to sign that veteran backup. If we have cap space to sign another player after that, it should probably be Vinny Curry. I seriously doubt that Enunwa will be on the roster, nor do I think he should be. He should retire, and the Jets should talk him into it. It will possibly save his getting paralyzed and will save the Jets cap space.
I agree but I'm not as high on Aiyuk. I think Claypool may move into the 2nd and Pittman in the 3rd be better prospects. The only corners I like a lot are Okubah, Fulton, Henderson, and Diggs. Diggs I have concerns about. After those 4 I got even more concerns. I would rather get a wr in the 2nd because I think it will have a higher chance of working out. We have had enough 2nd round busts and all the cb after those 4 could very easily be a bust.
I don't know, my gut tells me that Williamson and Winters stay on the roster, given they've recovered. I don't see us making many cuts at this point, who Is out there right now that we need to make cap room for at this time?
I don’t believe your cap figures are correct, if you’re using over the cap they don’t have all of the new contracts figured in yet. I don’t see McGovern, Van Roten, Poole, Desir, Perriman or a few others.
You're right. He's off by a lot. Our cap space is almost non existent after all the other contracts are posted. The Trumaine cut will give us just enough to sign Draft picks. We could make more space by cutting Winters and Bellamy but that would be needed for in season signing and maybe a back qb. I could see Williamson gone but I hope not, not without some kinda compensation.
