I don't really get the signing but I would have to imagine that would signal the end of Williamson. Unless we're really moving more towards a true 4-3 with Williamson as a the SAM and this dude as the WILL, and pushing Adams away from the box. Not sure how much we paid for him but we now have a lot of non-pass rushing linebackers and a lot of money invested in that spot. Cashman is likely on high alert now too.
Ravens fan made this video when they lost CJ to us last year. Looks like a solid pick-up. Looks solid on the blitz, wrap up tackler and knows how to force fumbles--only 27 years old as well! Also comes from a great organization. Even if we release Williamson, I would feel GREAT going into the year with CJ, Hewitt, Burgess and Peanut in the middle.
this is a very good player i dont know how the jets got this guy , he had a off year last season but 2 seasons ago with CJ he was elite. curious how much Money we paid for it.
He can play well in pass coverage, something Greg a Williams likes his LB’s to do. With Maye the FS playing so high, the LB drops to Mid/center field. That’s actually exactly how Mosley got hurt in the Bills game.
https://www.espn.com/nfl/story/_/id/28953849/jets-lb-patrick-onwuasor-agree-1-year-deal Source: Jets, LB Patrick Onwuasor agree to 1-year deal Rich Cimini ESPN Staff Writer Adding to an already deep position, the New York Jets have agreed to terms with former Baltimore Ravens linebacker Patrick Onwuasor on a one-year contract, a source confirmed. The Jets have a crowded linebacker room after re-signing Neville Hewitt and James Burgess Jr. They already had C.J. Mosley and Avery Williamson under contract, along with second-year linebacker Blake Cashman. The latter three are recovering from season-ending surgeries, so adding insurance was important. But the Onwuasor addition will intensify the speculation about Williamson as a possible cap casualty. He's due to count $8.5 million on the cap as he enters the final year of his contract, with none of his $6.5 million salary guaranteed. Onwuasor was the biggest disappointment on last year's defense for the Ravens. He flopped in trying to replace Pro Bowl middle linebacker C.J. Mosley and fell behind Josh Bynes and L.J. Fort on the depth chart at inside linebacker.
Jeeze let's cool it on the "elite" talk. He wasn't even as good with Mosley as Williamson has been without Mosley.
This is a great signing, he was very good paired with Mosley 2 years ago and then didn’t quite live up to the hope of replacing Mosley last year. Team has a lot of ILBs now, be interesting to see how the position ends up. Hope it doesn’t mean the end of Williamson.
Meanwhile DWC is preparing this guys biography with limited YouTube highlights, can't wait to ignore it.
For sure. I like the player based on what I've read about him. It just seems like a bit of overkill at the position. But I'd have to imagine they're trying to trade Williamson now before cutting him.
Jets will be strong up the middle. Someplace Mike Macgannan is reading this news and asking, "Who is this guy?"
