At 8-6, they REALLY have to win next week. If Cincy loses today and then loses next week, they're out of our way. If Cincy loses this week, and wins next week, Denver is out of our way. If Cincy wins today, and loses next week, they're still in our way. If they win today and win next week, they're past us no hope of passing them. Any Jets fan that thinks a Cincy win tonight is the best outcome really doesn't understand what's going on. (all cases below assume we win out. If we don't, we're done) Look at it this way: CIN: 8-6 DEN: 8-6 JAX: 8-6 NYJ: 8-6 If NE and CIN wins: CIN: 9-6 NYJ: 9-6 JAX: 8-7 DEN: 8-7 / KC 8-7 (KC wins tiebreaker still) If NE and DEN wins: DEN: 9-6 NYJ: 9-6 CIN: 8-7 JAX: 8-7 Both situations, an NE win puts us with our destiny in hand going into the Oakland game. --- CIN: 9-5 DEN: 8-6 JAX: 8-6 NYJ: 8-6 If Cincy / NE wins next week CIN: 10-5 NYJ: 9-6 JAX: 8-7 DEN: 8-7 / KC 8-7 HOWEVER, if DEN/NE wins DEN: 9-6 CIN: 9-6 NYJ: 9-6 JAX: 8-7 (DEN/NYJ/CIN tiebreaker. DEN and CIN have 4 conference losses, so Jets gone from the 5th seed. DEN beat Cincy, they get #5. CIN/NYJ for #6 goes to Cincy on conference record).
I don't really care if the Jets control their own destiny. I just want them to make the playoffs. I can't understand the logic of any of these threads saying I should root for Kansas City or Cincinatti. I will be rooting hard for the Colts tonight.
So let me get this straight - if Cincy wins, or loses then loses next week, or wins, or ties, but preferably wins, then maybe if we win or tie, but probably win, we might, if denver wins, or loses, sneak in to the #6 seed if Jax loses, or ties, or wins and tennessee wins in week 17 and we win again, or don't and then we all have a big party and get drunk?
You should reread your post as you say both Cinncy should both win & lose 2nite. I think I got the drift if Cinncy loses 2nite they to have 6 losses & then they play Den next week so one of them has 7 losses. If NE whacks Jax they to have 7 losses after next week which means we will be ahead of two of the 4 teams we are now competing against
This is actually a very, very simple deal right now for the Jets: 2 out of 3 of Cincinnati, Denver and Jacksonville need to lose at least 7 games for the Jets to make the playoffs. KC losing last night really hurt the Jets because it basically eliminated them as a factor in knocking Denver out of a 10-6 tie-breaker. What the Jets really need to happen at this point is for Cincinnati to lose tonight (I'm not optimistic about that) and then the Denver/Cincinnati game next week becomes a wash with both results helping the Jets.
This really isn't rocket science. We need the Bengals to lose so next week will automatically put one team to 7 loses. I'm not sure how this concept got so confusing for people.
This whole Bengals win/lose thing is making me F'ing DIZZY! Given the current standings this morning do we want the Bengals to WIN or LOSE tonight? My instincts purely tell me to root against them but there is the thread of thinking that it is better for the Jets if they win? Which is it? I've inahled too much baby powder to figure it out.
Them beating the Colts does us NO GOOD. Them losing to the Colts DOES US GOOD. I didn't read the other thread, but I don't see how them winning helps us get in the playoffs.
I don't believe that there's any scenario in which a Bengal's win is anything more than a nail in the Jet's coffin.
