Toon. I really don’t know much about Comp Pick formula. Mind to elaborate if you are knowledgeable on this matter?

Really looks like Gase is hindering our ability to sign free agents.

Leave Tom Brady and sign with a team coached by Adam Gase. Interesting

Even you have to know this is a terrible point. I'm not going to actually answer because I assume you're just ribbing.

Lol. Nicely trolled. Coaches have little impact on free agents deeper than the last chance 32+ year old veteran.

Why is this a terrible point? Because it doesn't fit your claim?

Perriman was widely looked at around the league as a very good free agent at the WR position. Philly was looking at him, Houston, New England, etc. Tampa Bay was looking to bring him back after excelling when Evans went down with an injury last year.

If Gase was steering players away, why would he sign here? He didn't get paid a ton of money.

I know that, but the first part is to have free agents leave and don’t think this isn’t part of Joe D’s thinking.

You would think that would be a point widely understood by everyone, but sadly, it is not.

Apparently Gase has fucked us all offseason. He's slowly destroyed our rebuild by causing all of our potential free agents to walk away

If you thought my point about Gase's past coming into consideration for free agents, I wasn't talking about the likes of 1-year, $6 mil Breshad Perriman. Especially considering it all stemmed from a conversation about the Dolphins attracting young, above average to excellent players.

If this was your takeaway, you need to do some distance learning.

Oh ok. So the Gase factor only pertains to certain players, under a certain amount of years, under a certain amount of money. Got it.

    Fuckin Gase.

I think that is part of his thinking, but it is mostly two other things: 1. Don't get locked into anything long term, making each move low risk. and 2. Building through the draft and undrafted free agents. He will hope some of these young guys step up and he won't be forced to re-sign some of these veterans. It is a solid plan! Just needs to properly draft. :)

Please apply common sense. We were talking about Byron Jones, Shaq Lawson, Kyle Van Noy... not Breshad Perriman, Neville Hewitt and James Burgess.

The Dolphins had a ton of cap space and overpaid almost every free agent they signed. Byron Jones has a down year compared to his 2018 campaign and they paid him for his 2018 performance. Van Noy is the latest New England role player to cash his check based on the performance of the unit and the coach rather than individually.

Gase wasn't deterring free agents from going there. The Dolphins cap space when he was there and their inability to overpay is what prevented free agent movement to the franchise.

Perriman numbers last year all came when both starters were out. In fairness to Perriman, Robbie who had better numbers would have sat on the bench in Tampa and never seen the field until their starters went down.

We aren't going to miss a beat with Perriman. Hopefully we upgrade the position and he's a better role player for us than Robbie would have been.

So in summary, your points are all as follows:

    - Gase is a detractor for free agents.
    - Miami is in a better state than the Jets.
    - If you are a free agent on the market longer than a week, you are just a good player, not great.
    - Gase is only a detractor for high level free agents and guys that are paid a lot of money, not mid tier guys.

Excellent set of points you've made

Love it. Ozzie was great at getting those for the Ravens. I read somewhere that the Ravens were one of the top teams in getting compensatory picks.

Yup! This upcoming draft is going to be EVERYTHING!

Douglas has impressed me big time so far. But the real test will be in April, or whenever the hell it ends up taking place lol

I was expecting a snide comment. Threw me for a loop with this one.

Initially, I wasn't interested in Perriman, but several posters convinced me to give him a chance. I'm glad that we didn't overpay Robby. Part of me wanted him back for continuity's sake and because Sam and he seemed to have at least some chemistry, but I like getting a WR who's taller, bigger, has better hands and cheaper. He's insurance so we don't HAVE to take a WR in the 1st round, and gives us greater flexibility. If he produces, great. If not, it was a low-risk, low cost signing and we can let him walk at the end of the league year, and hopefully he'll help us get a comp pick or two.

I like how quickly Douglas moved after Dorsett signed elsewhere and Anderson signed with Carolina. Mac would have hemmed and hawed and waited until Perriman re-signed with Tampa Bay or signed elsewhere.

Welcome to the Jets Breshard Perriman!

That "different feeling" you speak of? Some call it forward progress.
