Worth taking a flyer on. Was the only Carolina Panthers O-Lineman to start every game in 2018 (LG) and started the first 11 games for them last year @ LG before getting hurt.

He's a 30 year old career journeyman, however a journeyman with starting experience @ LG.

I think that they are still going OT at #11 which I definitely fully support. The drop off from the top tackles to the next tier seems to be drastic where as by all accounts they can still get a stud WR at #48.

He grew up a Jet fan. Seems a solid addition. Not sure this was posted.

Good signing. I know virtually nothing about him via watching him but I'm glad we're playing the numbers game at offensive line rather than the big splashy signing game.

    I highly doubt it.

I honestly believe they can get quality depth throughout the draft at OL. You can't pass up a potential pro bowl offensive weapon at #11

Happy we are bringing in a bunch of tier 2 guys instead of investing in 1 big splash signing. Love Joe D's approach.

He didn't play for the Patriots though, never has. Are you referring to somebody else?

And what players did New England lose?

Winters might be last lineman on our roster who can run block. I wouldn’t be too quick to move on at all.
This signing adds depth and competition, but that’s about it.

    Van Roten's 2019:

-Started 12 games, played 718 snaps at LG for Carolina
-74.3 pass block grade was 17th among guards with 500 snaps (would've been best on NYJ)
-Surrendered just 17 pressures in 446 pass block snaps

    Douglas keeps building the o-line

Another piece in the 'Save Sam' puzzle. Also a guy not likely to be with the Jets in 2 years.

Joe Douglas clearly has a couple of plans going at this point, the one where he keeps Darnold upright next season and the actual plan to build a team that most likely starts with his first draft and some trades he may be able to make this off-season if the wind blows just right.

IMO, this doesn't take us out of the running for an OT at 11, but I wouldn't object to getting one of the top WR prospects with our first pick if either is available.

Interesting I didn’t know Van Roten could play OT.
Anyone know if he has in past?

We really need a RT, and need RT/RG depth.

Have to head into the draft with the flexibiltiy to select the best player available, as who knows how the draft will fall to us.

There is no way we head in depending on finding a starter at a specific position. That’s a recipe for disaster.

Normally I would agree except this year seems to be the year of the receiver. Plus second round WR routinely turn into pro bowlers.

I don't pass up a chance to get one of the big 4 OT and I hope the here's don't either.

I'd be shocked if the top 4 OT's and top 2 WR's are taken by the time we pick. And I do like how Joe is building the OL with tier 2 players who won't break the bank. But, that shouldn't stop him from acquiring long term building blocks from the draft.

Well it would be now that we have signed a lot of OL, if we hadn't signed them I still think it would have been better to invest our 11 on an OT but just my opinion lol
