If we sign Clowney I will hope for the best but the most likely scenario is we give him big money and he dogs it...I mean it's well known the guy has had effort problems since college...has the guy even had double digit sacks in his career?
That was last year. They need more then that. They aren’t going to be able to address every position in the draft. I’d like them to overload on OL in the draft. Clowney would be the way to take care of the DL. Like I said, no need to worry, I’m sure they won’t do it. I’m just saying they should.
It’s not alarming. It’s saying good teams spend. Football is a year to year kind of sport. You can go from 7-9 to SB in a very short period if you do it right. Problem is we do it wrong.
Kamara. Thomas. Hill. Ingram for years. Lattimore. Marcus Williams. Cam Jordan. Outside of Brees and Demario Davis, those are the cornerstones of what made/make the Saints who they are. What do they all have in common?
Yeah, but you can only make so many high profile free agent signings while also thinking about the future of signing Jamal Adams and Sam Darnold.
Brees is a big deal. They have many other key players that they didn’t draft. Of course they’ve draft well, that’s always most important. Jets draft awful, even more a need for them to sign players.
Your argument is a dumb ass one because it is exactly what many of us on here have said. Of course if you draft well, then you can spend well. That's the point. You need to draft and put together a solid base of talent before you spend money. That's what the Saints did. If Douglas drafts well, he can start spending on big name free agents that are final pieces in the puzzle. Until then, spending big money in free agency is a waste of time if you have no youth to build on
After he had that huge clothesline tackle for a loss at South Carolina in the Outback Bowl and he basically cemented himself as the #1 pick the following season, he stopped playing as a junior. He's played an awful lot of games opposite JJ Watt to have never reached double digits sacks. Even though Watt himself has been hurt the majority of the past couple years. He's really good when he wants to be but he's usually banged up and I can just see the effort dropping off a cliff when he signs for the brinks truck of guaranteed money.
I don't disagree, but it needs to improve a lot if the Jets are to become a playoff team year in and year out. As others have pointed out FA's should be signed to supplement a homegrown core.
not true at all. I watched every play of Clowneys college career, every play. His junior year he dealt with illness and teams completely gameplanned around him. I actually think his junior year helped make him a more rounded player. He got better against the run and he got used to taking on multiple blockers. now he’s one of the best run stopping edge defenders in the game, no coincidence.
As I said earlier, I'm happy with the way Douglas has handled Free Agency thus far but I cannot agree that he has not overpaid for anyone until they perform for the New York Jets. I didn't think Kalil was overpaid last year either. I'm waiting to be amazed by something other than wishes.
