Hopefully it will change for a lot of us with the 2nd and 3rd wave of FA. I get building the core through the draft but we can't go into the draft needing to draft 3-4 starters on the line. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk
Yeah but I don't foresee a ton of "big name" players coming here in FA. Guys that will be good depth and quality starters with lesser known names will likely be the targets. The draft will be where fans can feel good about some of the names that will be in the building this upcoming season.
not to mention that he absolutely shit the bed in one of the most talent laden draft in recent memory..... luckily people werent hoarding toilet paper then
Maybe he got better? Undrafted out of Western Kentucky, George Fant currently stands as the only right tackle on the Seattle roster. Fant ranked 78th out of 78 players in 2016 at the tackle position with an overall grade of 27.6. Fant was equally bad as a pass-blocker (72nd out of 74, grade of 29.3) as he was at run-blocking (79th out of 79, grade of 31.9) https://www.pff.com/news/pro-the-seahawks-have-a-problem-at-right-tackle
If so, then we should see some trades to earn some mid round draft picks. Ravens are so Good making under the radar moves and picking up additional draft picks. I would be ok with that. Too early to be panicking and judging Joe.
He must have gotten better. He’s had three years since this article was published to do so. Twitter reports calling in a nice contract. That’s terrific but can he play ??
The hell with free agency. We need to focus on the draft this offseason. For once we need to find some diamonds in the rough like the Patriots do every year. We need a base of young talent, then free-agency will be much more important next season.
Who? Idzik.... Really,,, Hes a consultant for a really bad team not a GM 1 winning season since hes been there. 29-51 W/L record in that time, 3 fewer wins than the Jets.
I'm really putting my hopes in Douglas. I have been burned many times in the past doing such a thing, but something just feels right to me with him at the healm. Today was incredibly reassuring to me, which is something I have not been used to. I would have been the first one chomping at the bit to grab every big name possible, but where has that ever gotten us? We have spent big in free agency in the past, and it has clearly not resulted in a playoff run, let alone a championship. If Douglas fails, it will not be because of his lack of moves on day one of free agency. I think the years of mediocrity have made me dislike the whole free agent game. I want guys who are young and hungry and who want to win and change the culture in a franchise. I don't just want another stop gap at offensive line. I want a guy who can be Darnolds blanket for 10+ years. I am looking forward to the moves Douglas makes now that a lot of big names are off the board. And I am so looking forward to the draft
The Jets must really like Fant's tools and think he is coachable. Converted from basketball to football in college and basically has 3 years experience on the OL with 2017 lost to an ACL tear. No idea what to think about the signing. It's clearly a high risk/reward move. Given Douglas background on the OL I'll give him the benefit of the doubt.
