If we get him for cheap and get a real solution at LT (i.e. first round pick), then fine. Otherwise Ryan Clady says hi.
If we get him, it will be for our highest third round pick at the very least. And yes, I agree, we should pass.
Too old to want to invest in and just deter actually fixing the position for another 2-3 years. With that being said, he was really good. But I'm not overly fond of taking another flyer on a guy who will have gone 20+ months without playing. It has to be a sixth or seventh rounder for me. Otherwise, I'll pass Bob.
If I am the Jets and Douglas, I’d rather build the team with draft picks. I’d pass unless it is for a 4th or less.
if you bring in a veteran left tackle that means you can draft a tackle and not have him jump into the most important position on the line on day one. If we can get Williams for the later third round pick and a decent cap number I would probably do it. If you can also sign Glasgow that is huge because he can play all three interior positions. It gives you a ton of flexibility heading into the draft with still having your top three picks. Edit: forgot to mention the obvious impact it would have on Darnold immediately.
You're just all about acquiring veteran players regardless of the draft ramifications. I'd rather do this thing to right way. We've avoided doing so for a decade. And the reason we're in this hole is trading third rounders for players like Trent Williams. I hope Joe D. resists this. We'd be the only franchise in the NFL to have TWO players that went on two year hiatus' let alone one.
I’d give up or own 3 rd pick and a conditional 5th next year for Williams. Then I would draft lamb or jurdey. Plus adding a top tier ol in free agency.
He also might be a second rounder. Just saying. I’ve been on record, I’d do it for the Leo picks. Still allows you to take one of the top tackles in the draft, they’d just start at rt instead of left.
I have a horrible sinking feeling that we’ll sign two old, injury-riddled offensive lineman in free agency and draft a WR with #11 after Robbie walks.
yes that’s what I’m all about. Give me a break. There’s about 15 ways to skin this cat we have. One of those ways, and it’s pretty effective, is to provide immediate relief for our young QB while also stockpiling for the future. That’s what this is.
Obtaining a player that sat a full season? It sounds familiar - and with an injury to boot. Would JD take another risk after that debacle with Ryan Khalil? Is he capable of pulling another boner? Sorry, not for a third rounder, especially in a deep WR draft, I'll pass.
A deal for Trent Williams is something like a cross between a deal for Kris Jenkins and a deal for Kelechi Osmele. He's 31 and he just sat out a year for a major medical procedure. He had a cancerous growth on his scalp that was near the threshold for metastasizing to his brain. They removed the growth in 3 separate procedures to minimize the chance it would metastasize as a result of or after the surgery. Hell, we don't even know if he can wear a football helmet through the grind of a 17 game season at this point. We don't know if he still has the same talent post-surgery. We don't know if he's still the same player after more than a year off after the age of 30. There is no way that acquiring him is not a huge risk at this point and huge risks come with small prices or they're just not worth it.
As far as I can tell his relationship with the Skins is irreparable... so what are they offering us to take him of their hands?
