100% agree. Seen reports the Jets are signing Cousins, Barr, Winfield many players through the years then they get offered more or the player realizes how minor league the Jets are and they run. Agents know this players know this. Was hoping with Douglas it'd stop. It still might. Hopefully it does. We'll see in two weeks.
I would love an upgrade to our O-Line with an addition of a young Conklin. He could become set in stone for us for a good 5+ years. However I won't get too excited until he's signed to a contract because as other have mentioned it seems as if our Jets are always used as a stepping stone in order to drive a players value come free agency.
Keep in mind that players who sign here lose 10% off the top for Cuomo. Or said another way, if that same players signs with the Fish, they get a 10% raise!
That's interesting as I know the Giants have offices in New York. I don't believe the Jets do but still claim New York as their home and subsequently play their games in NJ. Do they get taxes as New York State employees or New Jersey?
Probably both. NJ has really high taxes too. Plus if they live in NY, they gotta pay up for that too. Crazy, especially for the higher paid players.
That's not true. Because just because they play in NJ/NY does not mean that they have to "live" in NY/NJ. They can simply buy a home in Florida and not pay high state taxes.
They will still be living in NY/NJ for half the year which makes them subject to the taxes. You don't get to circumvent tax law by living somewhere else the other six months of the year. Especially when it's pretty easy for the IRS to prove where these guys are lol.
The Jets that live in NJ pay no NY state taxes except for the 1 pay check they get for playing in Buffalo each year. Just as an aside, people bitching about high local taxes should try driving on the roads and drinking the water and using the medical facilities in areas that don't have high taxes. It is a bit like moving to a third world country. It will become more like that if we ever really cut into the revenue sharing that the federal tax system has supported since the Great Depression.
Uhh, no. Keep in mind that Jets players do not earn money in New York except for one game a year they play in Buffalo and few, if any, live in New York. Cuomo has absolutely nothing to do with anything you mention. You'll never be known as Taxgod214. (I see that Brad beat me to it.)
the check says New Jersey. The Jets HQ is in Florham Park, NJ and the stadium they play in is in NJ too, duh.
You're missing the point. NJ income taxes are just as high as NY. Players on the Jets, Giants, Philly (those players also pay Philly city tax) lose 10%+ of their pay compared to players on teams in Fl, TX, and a few other 0% income tax states. And it DOES make a difference when agents are negotiating player pay, or FA contracts. Between Fed, State, City, and Agent fees, players lose about 40% to 50%+ of their pay to taxes, depending on which state they live/play in. And that's BEFORE Bernie gets elected! GMs of teams in high tax states are automatically in a built-in disadvantage.
