From Larry Weismann in USA Today:

    Quote:
New York, NY: By my count, no AFC East team other than the Patriots has visited the Super Bowl since the Bills' inglorious run. Is there any hope for the three AFC East also-rans that New England's stranglehold on the division will end at some point. And more than that -- will any of the other three teams ever win a Super Bowl soon?

Larry Weisman: This was supposed to be the year the Dolphins got on the Patriots tail and chased them to the end. Uh-uh. Both the Bills and Jets seem to be building nicely but they are, to my mind, not ready to knock the Pats out in '07. I think the division will truly be up for grabs in 2008. Good coaches, two of whom think like Belichick. We've seen what he is able to do. If the Jets get more 3-4 personnel and a marquee running back (I am guessing they will try to pry Clinton Portis away from the Redskins, and I emphasize that I am only guessing) they could be dangerous. I worry that the Dolphins will have the same problems next year with Daunte Culpepper that they had this year and their defense will be a year older. My best bet for a Super Bowl team coming out of here other than New England: The Jets. But not right this minute.

That sounds good. However, I really can't see us getting Clinton Portis for some reason. It would be nice if we did though.

I don't want Portis. I really want us to draft a RB and have him locked up for a long time not some guy in his late 20's who will give us 2-3 years of good play at most.

I don't want him either. He's becoming injury prone...and we can get something with less hits on it by drafting a back or trading for a high potential backup like Mike Turner.

I really can't see the jets ever trading a #1 draft pick under the Tangini regime.

It's just a guess. We shouldn't take it seriously. We're going to go with youth (via draft), rather than pick up his contract

At this point (pre-combine and all the other offseason stuff) I don't see us taking a RB in the 1st. I think we will take either a defensive playmaker or o-lineman. That would follow the building from inside out theory the Jets are following.

I can see them trading down with a first round pick but that's about as far as I would go.

If they wound up with the 25 pick next year, which is still possible, I could see them trading out of the bottom of the first and into the top of the second to pick up a few extra picks and some cap relief.

I really thing a healthy Cedric Houston can have a 1200+ yard season and Washington would be a nice change up every now and then with his speed.

Restricted free agent, so he'll still cost us a high draft pick

I don't get the obsession with an unproven back like Turner. Not worth the price.

i dont get you guys uve been crying for a guy who can take it to the house at will and then we have a thread about portis and u guys are all like nah hes to this or to that. Im not sayin that we should get him but there should be no reason why you wouldnt want this kid on your team, he is only 25 years old and he is a playmaker which everyone has been complaining that we lack at rb
