I'm playing the Fanspeak's On the Clock Draft Game, and just had a pretty awful scenario occur. The first 10 picks went as follows: 1 - Joe Burrow, QB 2- Jeffrey Okudah, CB 3 - Chase Young, Edge 4 - Jerry Jeudy, WR 5 - Derrick Brown, DT 6 - Jedrick Wills, OT 7 - Andrew Thomas, OT 8 - Tristan Wirfs, OT 9 - CeeDee Lamb, WR 10 - Isaiah Simmons, LB One can't make or accept trades in this game unless one has paid to upgrade to the premium. Tua and Herbert are sitting there, but it doesn't help since I can't trade down. Epenesa, Ruggs, Higgins, Shenault, CJ Henderson, and Trevon Diggs are sitting there as are Kristian Fulton CB, K'Laivon Chaisson Edge, Justin Jefferson WR, Josh Jones OT, Isaiah Wilson OT, Yetur Gross Matos Edge, Austin Jackson OT, and Mekhi Becton OT. The game has Biadasz rated as only the 60th best prospect. All of those guys seem like reaches at #11. If you were drafting and the first 10 picks went that way, whom would you take at #11? I think I'd go with either Becton or Jefferson, and then grab Biadasz in the 2nd round.
If Becton shows out at Combine hes option A.However he may end up being more of a day 2 type value. Shenault would be my choice.Bigtime playmaker thats perfect for Gase’s scheme. Becton/Humphry/Leatherwood/Biadasz Day 2.
I agree with Kurt on everything except I like Jefferson over Shenault. But I can also see Shenault fitting Gase. I just think Jefferson is the better player and could also fit Gase. But Becton can easily move up by then and Humphrey/Becton in the 2nd if they are there.
I’d be more than happy w Jefferson too. I think hes slightly more of a boundary guy while Shenault alittle more short area but its purely preference. I like Shenault cause he doesnt have alot around him, always gonna prefer those types to the big schoolers surrounded by fellow blue chippers.Again purely preference
@KurtTheJetsFan @J-Raw24 In the next draft I used a different rating system for players. Again, all of the players I want the Jets to get with their #3 pick (Thomas, Wirfs, Lamb, Jeudy) are gone. The other OTs (Becton, Wills, Jones) and the other WR I want most are rated lower. The basic choice I had at #11 was either Jeffrey Okudah, Isaiah Simmons, or Henry Ruggs. Even though the thought of taking another defensive player with our #1 pick made me sick, I went with Simmons. He and Okudah are much better than Ruggs imo, and Simmons is better than Okudah and an edge rusher is better than a CB. Simmons hasn't had a lot of experience rushing the QB, but he did have 7 sacks this season. He could possibly develop into a very good edge rusher, and is good in coverage and vs the run. I could have gone with Okudah just as easily. The draft fell pretty well otherwise (although I don't think any of these players are likely to be available where I got them), and these are the players I was able to add. 2 - Mekhi Becton, OT 3a - Justin Jefferson, WR 3b - Josh Jones, OT 4 - Cameron Dantzler, CB 5 - AJ Dillon, RB 6 - Denzel Mims, WR
Becton, Dantzler. and Dillon may go there but it's hard to tell until after combine/pro days and even then there are big surprises. I don't think Jefferson or Jones make it out of the first. I could be wrong. Jones I think is most likely to drop into the 2nd. Jefferson was great in cfb playoffs and I think will show up big the rest of the offseasons. He is hard not to like. That said I like more your picks. I still hope we get more from trading back. A few of the good trades like drop 10 spots in round 5 for an extra 6th. I would also like to see a kicker late.
Oh and keep an eye out for Chase Claypool later in draft as well. He may fit well into Gase's YAC receiver mold.
I disagree with the idea of trading down in lower rounds of the draft. The talent level drops off markedly after the 4th round in most drafts, and in some drafts, even earlier. IMO from the 5th round on, you take the BPA or BPA at a position of need. If you trade down, generally, you may get more chances to find a player on one hand, but OTOH, you're likely to just wind up with more crappy players who won't make your team unless they're STers or fringe/developmental players. I will say that if there's a draft where the GM likes a number of players that are still available and hopes to be able to land several of them, then there would be reason for trading down, but generally, I only believe in trading down in the 1st or 2nd round. That's where the biggest returns come. After that, there's not much return on trade downs.
I would happily take this draft. Took Becton in the 1st to start at LT. He's a big physical LT projected as a great starter in the NFL in the 2nd I went with Shenault. he's projected at a late 1st so goof value. big physical WR to take enunwas place in the offense in the 3rd I went with an edge rusher with good pass rush moves, an OG as we need o-line help badly, and a CB in Dantsler in the 4th I got out C in the 5th and 6th I rounded it out with a scat back to backup bell who can challenge for returner role and a backup QB to develop

Fun .. Ran these sims multiple times and each time a top OT was available and at other times options for a trade down.. It will be intriguing to run these after free agency.
