If Jeudy or Lamb is available at 11, I'd have a difficult time passing on them. I know our OL needs to be addressed, but we also need playmakers at the skill positions. I've soured a bit on Higgins. Outside of that reverse TD, he was a non factor last night. He feasted on a lot of weak teams in the regular season. The most he'll be in his rookie season is a red zone target, but not much else IMO. Right now, my top 5 would be: Jeudy Lamb Ruggs Jefferson Higgins I see a lot of Tyreek Hill in Ruggs. Jefferson might be a safer bet than Higgins.
If jeudy or lamb are available it’s likely the top 3 tackles are off the board. At that point you have to take the wr. Jeudy or lamb, either way is a win.
Getting one of Jeudy, Lamb, Wills, Thomas, or Wirfs is a win at 11. Problem comes if all five are off the board and nobody wants to trade. Where do the Jets go from there? I don't think Jefferson, Higgins, or Ruggs are "viable" picks at 11, but I guess they'd have to reach. Maybe Becton winds up being a top 16 pick come draft day, that dude is an absolute monster.
I don’t know how the 2 wrs and the 3 tackles can all be off the board, but If so, Becton seems to be a fast riser right now so maybe he’s the pick. My nightmare scenario would be the 5 off the board and Simmons still being there. Like him, don’t want him.
In an ideal word, sure. It takes a willing partner. I'd be all for trading down a couple spots to gain another 2nd rounder.
In this scenario, Jeudy and Lamb are gone and both Oakland and Denver need a WR. Maybe Philly moves up to 11 to get Higgins/Ruggs/Jefferson etc.
For sure. Herbert, Fromm, Eason, even Simmons. Teams reach for QB's because it's the most important position and the Steelers traded up for Bush last year. Maybe some team will like Simmons enough to move up for him.
the WR free agent pool is very shallow outside of cooper and our own anderson. B. perriman from TB is a name. all others are on the back side of their career. So a first round receiver is definitely a possibility.
do think it will be imperative the jets get 2 FA OL signed prior to the draft. There are a handful of names - mostly interior lineman - that can be offered a decent sized contract. I'm not thrilled about the tackles on the market so the decision will certainly be WR vs. OT at the 11.
I like Lamb and Jeudy. Higgins fell a bit in my opinion. After the top 2 I like Jefferson later in round 1 and Ruggs even later. Then I skip to Pittman and Claypool at the 2nd or 3rd round. Kids had a lot of potential. There are a few others as well Peoples-Jones and Shenault.
The fact that Simmons had such a great game last night may have given the jets phone at the draft room more ringing - but I wouldn't drop too far down the board ....
I would hope so. But I can't imagine in a deep receiver draft that anyone would be moving up to get a receiver in the first (unfortunately). I think we need to really hope that the quarterbacks tumble or a team might move up to get Derrick Brown if he falls. Atlanta comes to mind. This is of course if Carolina and Arizona pass on him. It's actually be a good scenario to see the Chargers move on from Rivers and try to go get someone ala Dalton or Mariota and start new with them. If they retain Rivers, they are without a doubt taking a quarterback. The Dolphins are most certainly taking Tua at 5 IMO if someone doesn't move up to get him.
I have them ranked a little differently, but I agree with your overall assessment. Lamb Jeudy Jefferson Ruggs Higgins
What would make that even a worse nightmare scenario is that the Jets signed Conklin in FA to play RT, and then Becton is the only player that would be appropriate value at pick #11. I guess one could always move Becton inside for a few years to OG, but that seems like a waste.
Hes too tall to play Guard.Conklin would need to kick inside. Becton looks like an RT but could certainly play him at LT until he proves he cant handle it.I dont think hes a drop dead “no” at LT.
