Maccagnan had a real affinity for 300 lb ogres and edges who drank too much. The 300 lb ogres thing is understandable because there are only so many of those guys around and if you get the right pair the interior of your defense gets very scary. The drunken edges? That's just weird.

He does have a lot of potential, I agree with you here.

The interesting thing about him is the poor performance in the combine made him better IMO. He looks so much more complete now and I think he really went in and worked on what he was bad at. Not everyone does and good on him. I thought for sure he would top out as a later on David Boston. Seattle got a good one and it looks like last years crop of WR's is gonna be really good, much better than everyone thought. Let's hope we put our feet in the WR waters this year as it should be even better.

You guys are missing the point. This is a 3-4 DL driven league. Every other team can have their offensive playmakers but we'll have the best run stopping DL in the league!

    PS. Fuck you Maccagnan.

I honestly don’t think the combine or any of it changed his game. He is still most productive on a very few routes, but just like prior to the draft, he is absolutely elite at the things he’s good at. Shotty is doing a very good job at using him to his fullest and not asking him to do things he will not succeed at. Deep routes, posts and comebacks are where DK is going to make a living and he will be among the best in the nfl at those for a long time. He is simply not a quick twitch athlete who will thrive at getting open in the short area, horizontal game that has been the rage in the nfl recently. That said, he is a Calvin Johnson type that is simply too big and too fast for even the most athletic nfl corners in the long game.

the NFL really has become a hybrid league. Some teams are thriving using tons of NCAA concepts, limiting the reads needed and using QBs as likely to run as throw. Some are using west coast concepts and making teams defend the feild as wide as possible. Others still are still using the old school, power running to set up the pass style offenses.

the best coaches are able to include a bit from all of them and tailor a system to fit the talent they have. Other, *cough* Gase *cough* try to fit players into their system despite poor fits. The league is really about creating mismatches and coaching to your talent now days. DK is the ultimate height, weight, speed mismatch that needs to be used in an ideal role to maximize it, and he found a staff and a system where he can get the most out of those skills.

We all need to look ourselves in the mirror and be honest about DK Metcalf though. It was a much better decision to draft Jachai Polite and keep the 4th round pick we would've used to move up to get either Metcalf or Diontae Johnson.

The Trevon Wesco/Polite combination will surely be a juggernaut moving forward.
