FYI regarding Ryan Tannehill. The Titans are such a brilliant team when it comes to accessing QB's that both Tannehill and Mariota are FA's at the end of the year. Imagine they knew what they had in Tannehill and didn't lock him up. Maybe we should sign him and trade Sam?
Oh man how could I leave out that Tannehill’s yards per attempt went up a half yard under Gase? This changes everything. Nothing else matters now that we know Gase had such a massive positive effect on Tannehill’s yards per attempt average.
It debunks the 'short throws in Gase's offense is why his completion percentage went up' bullshit argument.
Actually it doesn't, we would need his yards per completion to debunk it. For instance, I could be 3 for 3 with 6 yards and have a higher yards per attempt than being 1 for 3 with 5 yards, where the incompletions were thrown 10 yards downfield. Another thing we should look at is failed completions (like an 8 yard completion on 3rd and 10) which look good on the stat sheet but are gifted by the defense because they're useless.
You'll never believe this but Tannehill’s yards per completion went DOWN under Gase as opposed to Philbin...
Correct which is the argument for Namath. Low completion percentage but huge yards per completion. In effect you can throw for a lower completion percentage and still move your team as far or further down the field per attempt as you can with a dink and dunk attack. In Tannehills case his yards per catch went down a 10th from 11.6 to 11.5 but his completion percentage was higher so his net yards went up. Net yards are what matters any way you slice it. It's how far you move the ball down the field on each attempt. Of course if the numbers are really skewed on ypc and you don't get the chunk plays more bad things can happen to stall a drive. Penalty, turnover, etc... In Tannehills case his numbers in Miami were pretty consistently in a range. They broke out this year in both yards per attempt and completion percentage which brought up his yards per attempt a lot. I suspect a lot of it is the incredible running attack TN has which allowed for a lot of play action chunk plays. AJ Brown the WR they drafted in the 2nd round averaged over 20 yards per catch on 52 catches. More to the Jets, in Sam's case his YPC went down but his YPA stayed the same. His Int's went down, his TD's went up and his QBR went up substantially. To me looking at last years numbers vs. this years the YPC went down because we got less out of Bell after the catch than we did out of our running backs by committee last year. Bell frankly looked incredibly slow all year or he was waiting for blocks that never were made. Last year our RB's actually did a little better on YPC and there were a fair amount of them statistically. Yards per completion doesn't tell the entire story of the depth of the passes. Jerry Rice took more short slants for more YPC than any WR in the history of the game and Joe Montana benefitted statistically from it. Granted he had to be very accurate to get the yac.
You know you are overly emotional when you are humping Ryan Tannehill like he’s great just because you hate Adam Gase lol
This is dumb for multiple reasons: 1. No one is humping Tannehill 2. He literally led the league in passer rating 3. Nothing but facts are being used You hit a triple.
I presume the Titans Personnel compared to that of the Dolphins or Jets provides no merit for Anti Gase Movement?
Great oline with an RB that won the rushing title and AJ Brown has been a freak Tannehill was pretty solid and trending up from what I remember but kept getting hurt with Gase So many variables as to why a player does better somewhere else
Let’s talk about another Gase botch then: Parker. He was a healthy scratch under Gase, then puts up a career year his first year away from him. That’s the Dolphins personnel department through and through.
he had a knee injury, then Gase's last year, he had a bum shoulder, came back and didn't look the same...he wasn't 100% healthy.
How is that a Gase botch? He had plenty of opportunities even before Gase and with him. I don’t think he even really broke out until the second half of this season anyway Just seems like a player that had all the talent and finally started giving a shit....And oh yeah, having WR friendly Fitzpatrick helps. Fitz LOVES big WRs and chucks it up to them constantly. We know this
Consequently his first year away from playing in MIAMI as well no? Players leaving Miami & having better success isnt really exclusive to the Gase/post Gase era. And when learning of it..the HC or former HC isnt the first thing that pops into one’s mind. I dont know the answer but would be very curious to look at Neville Hewitt’s numbers between here & miami/gase vs no Gase.
Parker really wasn't healthy neither...he finally got healthy and focused, and I like what you said about Fitz too which helped a ton.
Well there you go. He's using what he learned under Gase and now he's flourishing. Two sides to every story. Who are you to say he didn't learn a thing or two with Gase all of those couple of years? Bill Belly stunk with Cleveland more than Gase stuck with Miami. One stint doesn't define a coaches destiny or potential. The Dolphins have sucked since Marino, couldn't even win a ring with Marino; so stop acting like Gase was Miami's "problem". Or as if he "ruined" Tanny.
I think it's interesting that the phins got Chan Gailey, presumably because his offense is simpler and will be easy for a young QB to learn, not because they want to deal with Fitzpatrick as the starter. Rather than get a "quarterback whisperer" who will increase the QB's ypc by 10% while letting everything else go to hell. Ron
For everyone on Matt Rhules jock, I hope you're watching this game right now as he's coached and managed a terrible game. Going for it on the 46 and spending a timeout, then not getting it. Play design had one player near the marker/over the middle of the field. Then they get to the goal line and they spend another timeout related to the play clock running down after fumbling the second down play by putting his strictly shotgun QB under center for a QB sneak. Also allowed a fake FG for a huge first down that led to a touchdown. Great season for Baylor, but man he's had a rough game. I think he needs a little bit more seasoning in college before he's ready for the big time.
Baylor is the most overrated team in the nation. Georgia -3 was one of the easiest bets I’ve made in awhile. Baylor would be 7-5 if they played a real schedule. It’s like Georgia playing Kentucky in the sugar bowl
