I've seen Alabama play enough. I just switched to the Auburn game. I'm glad I did. I've seen 3 good/great catches from Johnson. I like what I've read about him, but this is the first time I've seen him play in a live game. and what I've seen in some clips. He definitely looks like a WR I'd love to add to the Jets. Seems to have great hands, has the height I want, great body control and high-points the ball. He supposedly has great character. The only questions are speed and whether he comes back towards the QB when the QB is in trouble. Question: Are any of the Minnesota OL going to be entering the draft? Based on what the announcers are saying, the rushing yardage they've gotten against Auburn, and what I saw on this TD drive, we could do a lot worse than add one of their OL.
Anyone know around where Johnson is projected atm? He looks good in this game. Could be a nice pick up.
I don't think so on the Minnesota OL at least in terms of those that would be eligible. No seniors and a couple juniors. I don't know there projections but they seem to be just good college run blocking offensive lineman. I thought Tyler Johnson was more of a mid rounder late 2nd-4th but I think he's helping himself a lot right now. I'm not big on the combine making or breaking a player, but some NFL teams fall in love with faster times. We did with Devin Smith. I don't think Johnson will run well. He's exactly the type of receiver we need though. Him, Pittman and Claypool. Big physical possession receivers.
. .Actually it was #24, but to his credit he at least had the smarts to bail out and grab Jeudy and take the PI. vs. the TD.
On the flip side of smallish CBs, you talking big receivers? Check out Jauan Jennings. Guy's got a little "headcase" in him (suspended for the first half of Tennesse's bowl game) but is all about production. Jets may want to give Brent Cimaglia (UT's kicker) a look next summer while they're at it.
I just read some of his scouting evals. Biggest complaint is he isn't physical attacking the ball. Says he is great at route running and after the catch he is ok. Still could be a nice day 2 pick up. Johnson I mean.
Mentioned this 'big target' a few minutes ago (Jauan Jennings) and while I don't normally put much stock in snapshot Youtube "scouting videos" (ha) per se, this gives a look at the physicality of the guy. Not a quick twitchy type but the guy's got YAC talent:
There's going to be a lot of these receivers that have first round draft grades that will fall to the 2nd round. Your Claypools, Pittman Jrs and Johnsons will fall to the Jets 2nd round pick IMO. Jeudy and Lamb won't be there at 11, that's going to leave players like Wirfs, Wills and Leatherwood available should they address the offensive line. Epenesa might be in consideration.
My boy Lavert Hill just got beat again. Bad day to tote him as a potential Jets draft pick. I like Wirfs the most. He stood out a lot against USC. I think he'll go before our pick as good offensive line at any spot are becoming premium players. Agreed on receivers though. That's why offensive line is going to be our first round pick. Guard or tackle or I could really see us taking Biadasz at 11 if we deem him worth it.
I don't think any of those receivers have round 1 grades. Outside Jeudy, Lamb, Higgins and maybe Jefferson I don't see it. Maybe. But they all have serious question marks. Johnsons doesn't have much speed and isn't as physical as some would like. Claypool I like but how does he do against a top cb, Okubah. Totally different. Epenesa would make no sense for us we need offensive talent and Leatherwood is a reach.
He is big and physical. Any injury history? Any idea how he plays against good corners? And what was the suspension for?
On a little off-topic note, but not sure where else to post this. I don't understand why Michigan and Don Brown continue to play man no matter what. They did it against Ohio State too. They can't keep up with these receivers. Talk about a lack of adjustments.
I noticed that was. Well not sure if its been all year. But about every game I watch I think they stick to man... sometimes it works but against some of these good wr they get burnt bad.
Didn't look good. He had to be helped off and left for the locker room. No update yet. Maybe a good thing he didn't declare yet. I could see him waiting depending on the injury.
I don't think this is his first injury if I remember. He has had a few close calls already. May hurt his draft stock more due to "injury prone". I'd have to look into it.
