Yes he has certainly done enough to get a 2nd year. Whether or not he deserves a 3rd year will be largely dependent on whether Joe D can upgrade the talent enough before year 2.

I never hated the hire and in the beginning of the season I supported him quite a bit more than majority of this board (For a few weeks Falco & I were the most vocal supporting him, but man it's hard to support him ATM. I get it, there is absolutely zero talent around him or in front of him, but we look so good on the opening drive and then the D makes an adjustment and shit goes up in flames. It isn't acceptable that after the first drive we look absolutely abysmal. Just look at yesterday for example - Crowder was eating them alive the first drive, how long did it take for him to get going again? It felt like we went a few drives before he got another catch again. Sam was 5/5 to start the game - 3rd and 2 we run that shitty Wild Cat play?

I've come to the realization that Gase will be back. I think Sam is that good that it won't matter who the Coach is if he gets a solid OL in front him.

Where are you getting this 40% statistic? We scored 40/276 points on opening drives. That's 14.5% rounded up to the first decimal.

I don’t think anyone is disagreeing that there are problems , I think it’s lazy to lay them all at one persons feet though. I’m pretty sure gase doesn’t design plays that require Harrison to be driven straight back or shell to be beat like a drum on the edge. There is just as much fault in the execution than the design if not more.

I will agree with you the oline is garbage and Sam has to run for his life. It need fixed. I'm not saying our team is all Gase's fault, but his play calling is garbage. We can't hope to be a title contender if oir HC cannot make adjustments (and this was a problem in Miami as well) or mamage a game. He's basically and offensive version of Todd Bowles. If given a week he can make a good plan for a drive, but on game day he can't change the plan and make things happen. There is a lot wrong with this team, we also have no pass rush, but Williams adjusted to make things almost work. We have more injuries and players who aren't supposed to be on the field on the defense, but the look better than the offense. Thats all in the coaching.

Jets OLine is only the 3rd oline in history to allow 50 sacks and <3.3 YPC.

A blind monkey could see where the majority of the blame should fall for the Jets offense.

Fix the OL fix the O.

It’s hard conclude that is all gospel truth while looking at the talent. That’s why he’s getting a second year.

We also need a wr1 and better play calling. Its not just a simple fix. But the o line needs to be a HUGE focus this year. I think its a 2 year build myself. But it needs major improvement this year or we are just screwing Darnold.

I have accepted him getting another year. There is no way around it, but he has had 4 years and had a decent oline in Miami. I have no faith in him. But we need to fix our talent issue with or without him. Rolling with him means a new HC after next year may inherit a decent team. Why waste a year with a good coach in the middle of a rebuild. Darnold may end up being a late bloomer, not like most the "top QBs" now days. But that could be because of the talent and coaching around him. He may take 4-5 years due to the garbage he has had to deal with. But he will still be 25-26 so plenty of gas left in the tank.

Why Garrett? He couldn't reach the playoffs with arguably the most talented roster in the league.

Hmmm a historically bad O-line but it’s the play calling?

Wish I knew what plays to call when defenders are running free play after play.

Coaches coach and players play, fix the oline and you’ll fix the team

If it has nothing to do with play calling explain why we are top 5 in the league when Gase has a week to plan that first drive.. our opening drive are most of our points the past 8 weeks. But after than when he isn't following a planned out script but instead calling the plays himself we can't score. We drop to the bottom of the league in offense.

Most teams are better with scripted plays, it’s not just a Jets thing.

We cannot run or pass block at a level only seen 3 times in the history of the NFL!

I’ll be honest with you about the playcalling: I feel like I can’t even fully evaluate it because we could not run the ball whatsoever. Then we have a trickle down effect where we’re constantly in 3rd and longs and our bad olinemen get eaten alive

Playcalling is almost always the main complaint of any fan base but in this case I just can’t get on board because of how bad our blocking was

Outside of his first year as an HC, Gase has always went away from running. Eben with a good line in Miami he was a pass 70% type coach. Its what he does. But again I agree we need to give him at least half of next year to see if he can fix it with better talent. I don't have faith as he has been garbage since he had Manning running it for him. But I also wouldn't want to put a good coach in this garbage situation so I'm not against Gase wasting at least 8 games next year.

I'm on the fence. Before the season started, I thought if the Jets went 7-9 or better that would be a pretty successful season. Gase accomplished that, with a mono ridden Darnold, injuries out the ass, and some of the worst offensive line play I've ever seen.

Having said that, the Jets lost to two winless teams. That absolutely cannot be overlooked, winning those two games would at the very least put the Jets into playoff contention.

Overall, I'm OK with him being here in 2020. But if by some miracle an incredible coach somehow shakes loose, I wouldnt hesitate lol.

I don’t expect everyone to be a Gase believer or supporter but this atleast makes some sense...I’m on the fence about him I just have an overall view about the situation:

We managed to go 7-9 with the starting QB getting Mono week 1, a shitload of important injuries, and one of the worst oline units in the history of the NFL

Just looking at those key points a first year head coach does not deserve to be fired after one season

It’s really that simple to me...give him another year in normal circumstances to sink or swim

So the Giants give us Darnold, a third and a fourth and we likely give them Rhule while also having to endure Gase. I think they won.

I would have fired him, but since he's coming back next season, we'll have to hope that the season doesn't turn out the way it was this season, especially the first half.

The 7-9 looks better on paper, versus years past, but when you realize we could be easily competing for a WC spot had we not stunk it up versus some very beatable teams and it makes you wonder why we don't have an HC who's able to get the absolute most from the players we have.

I think the fact that offensively, we look lost after our first drive of the game implies that our head coach knows how to script 1 good drive a game, and fails to adjust the rest of the way.

I also think that if we didn't have Greg Williams as DC, we may be looking at a 4 win year, and Gase being one and done, so Adam should buy Greg one hell of a thank you gift.

Ultimately, we have owners who either want to escape their responsibilities in the states (Woody) or kick the can down the road and accept mediocrity (Chris).

I think much of what we saw this season will surely be here next season, and if that is the case then I can't see how Gase would be back for year 3, but Johnson bro's are lost, so who knows.
