Absurd playcall in Tennessee by Houston - with a 7 point lead on third and goal, 3:30 left, and Tennessee with no timeouts, they call a pass and Watson throws it away rather than take the sack, gifting Tennessee with 35 free seconds when they get the ball back. Once again coaches making the game way more complicated than it really is.

Wentz with the completely brainless fumble, standing in the pocket for more than 5 seconds, inevitably resulting in being hit from behind. He has regressed so much.

Seahawks move to 11-3. Vikings or Rams loss clinches the playoffs for them.

Eagles win, getting the backdoor cover on a fumble recovery and TD return on the last play of the game. As a non-bettor I find things like that hysterically funny, but I'll bet there are a whole lot of people who are very unhappy right now.

He's obviously a good situation quarterback, but teams can do far worse. I suspect him to get a chance with decent teams down the stretch of his career to put together some playoff runs.

I guess I just don't clarify someone who is probably consistently in that 13-16 best QB in the league as "not good."

Bears got it down to around the 5 on the last second hook-and-ladder, but Pack holds on to go to 11-3.

This I can agree with. But I think we'll start to see teams think twice about shelling out long contracts to quarterbacks like him. At least those that are not cuttable after year 3.

13th is generous. In terms of passer rating, for example, he had one excellent year (2015), but otherwise his rankings before this year were 20th-13th-15th-25th-15th-17th-26th (and of course he's awful this year). That is precisely the profile of a player who might get you into the playoffs occasionally, but will never go on any sort of playoff run (and of course he's never won a playoff game and has been terrible in all four games he played in). Any good team that ever thinks of him as anything other than a short-term backup is crazy, and any bad team that wastes their time with him as their starter rather than trying out some kid is also crazy.

I view good as being very different from being consistently mediocre-to-bad.

The Cowboys elect to kick in both halves. Oh good lord is Garrett fired.

I don't really consider passer rating to be a stat worth any thing. I'm surprised you do. Playoff births and wins are important barometers. Along with touchdown to interception ratio and completion percentage.

I think we did this once in Buffalo in the mid 2000s. I could be wrong but I believe we tried to play the wind in both halves. I don't really quite understand how this doesn't get clarified before you're kicking in both spots though to be honest.

As I clearly said, I just used passer rating as an example (and yes, I certainly do think it's meaningful). You like completion percentage? Here are his rankings for his career: 22-12-15-12-8-12-26-28-31. I personally think yards per attempt is the best single measure, and here are his rankings for his career: 25-18-11-19-2-11-22-25-28. If you like ESPN's QBR his rankings are 21-22-20-24-5-20-24-13-32. His interception % rankings are 14-24-29-30-8-8-17-26-20. His best stat is TD %, and even there he's in the bottom half of the league in 4 of his 9 seasons: 21-9-9-20-3-24-10-9-32.

Playoff berths is a terrible way to evaluate any single player - that's a team statistic, and football is a team game. That is certainly true when talking about the Bengals. Want to know how they made the playoffs five straight years? Defense. Their defensive rankings in points those years were 9-8-6-12-2, and their defensive rankings in yards were 7-6-3-22-11. Consistently top half, usually top 10. Their offensive ranks were 18-12-6-15-7 and 20-22-10-15-15, respectively. In every season, even Dalton's best season, the defense was better than the offense.

It's blindingly obvious - other than one excellent season he has been mediocre at best, and often much worse than that. That is not a good QB. The fact is that I never gave this any thought at all - the eye test was more than enough for me to know what he was. I'm actually surprised just how much the stats support my impression of someone who I've seen so little of through the years.

He was a better QB than Darnold at the same point in their careers.

If Darnold can reach the heights Dalton did I'll be a happy Jets fan.

    If. No guarantees.

The Pats ain't the Jets. They usually bury these bum teams.

I can't remember the last time they lost to a terrible team.

That's why the early score was so shocking.

Dalton was a second round pick for the Bengals, and he outperformed that status. Through two years Darnold has been a way below average NFL quarterback. If Darnold is no better than Dalton throughout his time at the Jets, moving up to get him as the third overall pick will turn out to have been a terrible decision for the Jets. If you don't see that after all of the evidence I've provided in this thread about how mediocre-at-best-often-much-worse Dalton has been throughout his career there's no point even talking about it.

Cowboys actually look good for the first time in quite a while. If they play this way next week against the Eagles the're going to destroy them.

Crazy end at the Falcons-Niners game. A winning Falcons TD is bobbled slightly and overturned, and then a pass called as not breaking the plane is overturned and the Falcons get the TD with 2 seconds left. This is a devastating loss for SF.
