Surprised by this one. Rivera's had a lot of success in Carolina and is currently 5-7 with an undrafted backup QB. It'll never happen, but I'd take him over Gase in a heartbeat. He isn't a QB whisperer, but neither is Gase, and at least he can run a winning program.

Meanwhile the Jets give Gase job security through 2020 when Rivera is 5x the coach that he is. God I fucking hate this team (not really)

I would love to get rid of Gase, promote Gregg Williams or whoever and get Norv Turner in here as OC. At least he'll know how to get Bell the ball.

Give anyone on this board 6 months to watch film on Pittsburgh and they can figure out how to use LeVeon.

I have to believe the Panthers do not believe Kyle Allen is the man to replace Cam. His mediocrity is just enough for them to justify moving on from Cam because they don't want to continue paying and possibly extending a running quarterback entering his 30's.

I think the Panthers will be heavily invested in drafting a quarterback this year. And I still don't think Cam is completely finished. The year off might help him a loooot

Next head coach of the Giants? Shurmur is rightfully on thin ice, and Rivera and Gettleman worked together in Carolina. Rivera's background is defense, and the Gaints defense is hideous and needs all the help it can get. Rivera has a winning lifetime record, something that Shurmur doesn't have and never will.

This would make a lot of sense.

Wonder if the team bottoms out over the last four games if they'd reconsider firing Gase

And once again the Giants will come out on top while we're stuck with Gase.

Agreed, either they will grab one in the first round and anoint him the franchise or pick one in the 2nd-4th and hope he can push Allen.
I think Cam to the bears or the titans

Why's Carolina replacing Ron Rivera with that guy from Jane's Addiction?

I can definitely see Cam or maybe even Rivers to the Bears but if the Titans somehow make a late push to the playoffs or finish 9-7 and miss them, I can see them rolling with RT again. Since RT has taken over they are 2nd in PPG with ~29 and I think they are near the top in YPG as well.

Truly a shocking decision IMO he's a top tier HC IMO and I think he was doing about as good as can be expected with what he has to work with there. 5-7 is not a fire a HC in the middle of the season record he deserved better.

Rivera was 6-10 & 7-9 in his first two years with Panthers. Jets fans would’ve run him out of town before he had a chance to become a good coach.

I would think Rivera to Giants is highly likely.

Links to that or just speculation?

it is speculation on my part based on what I heard on the radio this morning. I heard that the Panthers owner claimed he fired Rivera at this time because he didn't want to put Rivera in the awkward situation of coaching while the owner was meeting with / recruiting his replacement. That, and the timing, tells me that he sees a long process of selling Harbaugh to the Panthers as something he wants to get started on.

if they really just wanted to move on from Rivera, and hire some coordinator, there would be no reason to cite the whole recruiting his replacement thing.

Its a separate point but I also believe Harbaugh would be interested in the Panthers job more than others. It's a fairly cake job, less of a pressure cooker than the rust belt teams and of course NY, LA, etc. They have some nice pieces in place already and a pretty easy division. He could step right in and contend right away

Rivera was allowed to learn on the job and he did. He became a much more numbers oriented/aggressive coach in his time there. They'd been hanging billboards here long before that

I think Rivera ends up in Cleveland after they can the fat, amateur coach they have now
