I don't know about you guys but I am impressed with the defense Williams has managed to build with duct tape and little else. We lost our free agency savior CJ Mosely to injury along with our other starting ILB after foolishly giving away our former first round ILB (Lee). We also have gotten little impact from this year's #1 pick at DT while trading away Leonard Williams for future picks. Our starting CBs including Johnson and his bag of money are on IR as well. Despite all of this our defense has kept us hanging around in most games with little or no help from the offense. If we dump Gase I would keep Williams around even if that means we need to make him HC. In that scenario, who do we bring in as OC?
The only situation where I'd have Williams be our HC would be on an interim basis if Gase got fired during this season. In that case, Cooter would be the OC. But since Gase will likely not only finish this season as our HC, but will remain in that role next year, this is a moot point.
Gase is going NOWHERE until AFTER the 2020 season--Simple reason--Chris Johnson's MORONIC decision at the end of 2017 to extend MacIdiot and Toilet Bowl's contract thru the END of 2020. Nitwit owner Chris Johnson does not want to be the laughing stock of the league in 2020 by having pay TWO ex-coaches (Toilet Bowl and Gase) AND an Ex-GM (Mike MacIdiot) in addition to a new coach and the current GM.
Because keeping a losing coach and having another losing season makes us less of a laughingstock than firing a losing coach and maybe having a winning season. Also, I'm not sold on Gregg Williams. He's done a good job this year, but his long-term track record is one of mediocre defenses. We can do better than him.
Many might say that he looks more like an idiot by riding along on the same bus full of losers than getting off and going in a different direction.
I don't like williams as a head coach. I like what he has done with what kuttle he gas had to work with. That said his zone defense is what gave Dalton a great game. He didn't change the game plan and with Jamal playing 100% the defense looked very bad. I still think we need an offensive minded head coach ir a really good offensive coordinator. Someone Darnold can rely on. Someone who put Darnold in a good place, not relying on Darnold to come in and tell the coach how to do his job.
Haven't we had enough defensive minded head coaches over the years? Gregg Williams belongs where he's at; Defensive Coordinator. Plus. Once you intentionally go out of your way to hurt opposing players, you've lost all respect and creditability as a head coach. I love Williams as a DC but that's about it.
They could hold a random ticket stub drawing during pregame. Whoever has their seat number called gets to come down to the sideline and call the offense for the day. Not sure this would be any worse than what Gase is doing.
