24McNeil, I also know that your a JETS fan that wants the best for his team as I do and will always. I'm just stating what I see and believe.
My worry about D'Brick is that I have seen him get pancaked twiced this season (Schoble,Freeney). I'm sure there have been a few times that I have missed. When pick #4 is on his back, it's not a good sign. I hope D'Brick is motivated in the off season to improve this strenght and weight. We will need a run blocking RT to help off-set D'Brick for next season.
I'm satisfied with the D'Brick pick but I also wanted McNeil in the 2nd round before draft day. However, I remember someone mentioning that he dropped because he has back issues that may affect him down the road. Anyone know anything about that?
Im gonna side with Kurt- hes arguably one of hte most intelligent people I have encountered when it comes to Olineman.
I watch all of the CHargers games and McNeil is no where near as good in pass protection as Brick. You cna bring up all you want the handfull of times Brick has been beat, but overall he has played at least as well as McNeil and has a much larger upside.
Im tired of hearing this shit. One rough game and everyone thinks he's the bust. This kid is a stud and if it wasnt for him Chad would of been injured already. Now can we stop the bullshit its getting annoying.
Um no he didnt. Theres a reason why D'Brick was a top 5 pick 2 years in a row, because he had a better college career. McNeil didnt give up a sack because Auburn is a running team, not a passing team. D'Brick was a 4 year starter, who didnt give up a sack his sophmore and junior year, and Virginia is a passing team team, especially the season Matt Schaub tore shit up, it was D'Brick who was protecting him. D'Brick had a mobile QB for one season, so dont use that as an excuse. Auburn has way better talent than Virginia also. D'Brick shut down Shawne Merriman, Jason Babin, Kiwanuka, Mario Williams, etc. Dont compare college careers cause D'Brick had a better one. If thats the case then everyone except the Titans screwed up the first 5 picks of the draft because Mario Williams isnt best defensive end, Reggie isnt the best RB, and AJ Hawk isnt the best linebacker, but I think I wouldnt jump to conclusions because its only been 13 games in the pros. And D'Brick has already exceeded him, so whats your point? Sure did and thats why he fell to the 2nd rd and a couple of other tackles were taken ahead of him. And way to bring up the select few times D'Brick was beaten, and if you were watching the Texans game, that one play Mario had was the ONLY play Mario had and that wasnt his fault. Was D'Brick suppose to somehow see behind himself and know that Chad has already stepped up into the pocket to take off?
Richie, you sure do like to stroke yourself. Looks like you wanted Mario Williams over D'Brick. Hmm, how did that work out? Yeah Mario Williams is looking like a real beast right about now, what does he have, 4 sacks? Mario Williams looks like a real supernova right about now. BTW, the score is D'Brick 2, Mario 0. D'Brick got the better of him in college and in the pros. So way to toot your own horn about McNeil as a 2nd rd pick, but own up to Mario as a 1st rd pick.
True, I personally think McNeil is playing great and love his mean streak but it's to early to state one is much better then the other at this stage. they are both playing pretty good and don't forget how much better the chargers are then the jets. In a few years this will play out, not this year, but if it was it would clearly be Mcneil. or am i biased?
I appreciate the kind words as always. I'm certainly not the "end all" of any OL opinion on this board, or anywhere for that matter...but this is one subject I happen to know alot about. I followed the OT position very closely in last year's draft. Truthfully, initially i was higher on us taking McNeill rather than Brick as I felt we needed a run blocking presence for the right side(which is where I pictured McNeill playing in the pro's). W/ that said, anyone who truly believed he was a better overall prospect than Brick is/was crazy. Brick has athleticism that hasnt been seen for the LT position in at least 10 years. And although McNeill has alot of good qualities...he simply cannot compare to that attribute.
How often has Richiebsweet really watched the guy play if he doesn't know Marcus spells his surname with two "L"s?
hey poster, the grass is always greener on the other side. It's funny how you pick a lineman that has had success to compare with Dbrick-as if McNeil would be where we wanted him to be had we taken another play instead of Brick. All whole chain of events would then change.
I guess what I'm trying to say is this: what's the use of saying that we didn't pick the best lineman in the draft. Is it really worth the time and effort. Let's just focus on things that effect this time. Last time I checked, McNeil has nothing to do with the Jets. Overall, wouldn't you say the Jets had a decent draft? McNeil was being pegged as a RT out of college anyway, wasn't he?
I heard this also on the Mike & Mike show it was said by Golic a Lman himself that McNeill is playing lites out ball right now & is clearly out playing Brick at this point in there careers. By the way so is Mangold clearly a better L/man at this time then Brick at this juncture. The above being said if Brick turns out to be a flop or a near flop or just average then Man & Tan will be tagged with demerits cause to fail on the 4th overall pick in the dradt is what drags teams backwards & will eventually have to make us use another draft pick to get a LT that will be a better player then the Brick. Poor drafting over the years is at least one major reasons we have been a non championship team for 37 years now. OTH if Brick becomes a super star then Man & Tan are entitled to gold stars. Since there is so much bias on this board towards other then NYJ players it is very hard to get a sensable debate going so the best thing IMHO to do is allow the players to play & as as time goes forwatd the cream will rise to the sutface & the milk will drop to the bottom.
There is nothing thus far in Brick's pro career that suggests he will be anything but very good or close to great for us. He has protected our QB's blindside all year long, and before this week, no one was complaining about his performance. Face it, w/ all the quality defensive ends he has faced all year long, he was bound to struggle at some point. Afterall, he is just a rookie. Physically and technique wise, all the tools are there for him to continue to improve and be a top 5 or top 3 left tackle in this league.
QFT LOL OP the GM? What team is paying your salary? Sure I would love to go back in time and freakin cherry pick the best player from every single round of the draft. If I could do that I could be making 5 Mill a year as a gm. This thread is just ridiculous it is just another mental masturbation thread ................. woohooo.
Maybe....:breakdance: .....If Kendall wasn't next to Brick, he might look a bit better. Katnik looked better at LG & O-line played better with Katnik in at LG, earlier in the season.
Thanks for the feedback, I'm glad to see how much dedicated JETS fans tuned in and gave an opinion on how much they liked the D'Brick pick. Yeah, I liked Marcus McNeill coming out and yes he had back issues which dropped him in the draft but he doing great this year while playing injured. D'Brick is D'Brick and he's still a young guy but I'm just saying at this time he doesn't have the mean streak and Physicality you look at from the LT positon, but hey, that's just my opinion. Every player is going to get good or bad reviews, and Mario Williams isn't playing great in his rookie year even though he's playing injured and yeah I wanted him to be a JET after Abraham left but the TEXANS took him because of his potential when they clearly needed O-LINE help and still do for David Carr. D'Brick wasn't good enough to go #1 because he had glaring issues to correct and there were players named Bush, Young, and Williams that were better than him. Yes, the rookies in the NFL are young and they are only 13 games into there careers but the guys that are standing out whether they were drafted first or last are being judged. Sure I'm a little to quick to judge a player but three years from now when the players are veterans in the league, that's when a fair assessment can be made, but for the here and now, MARCUS McNEILL is getting recognized as All-Pro at his LT Position by coaches, players, former players, the NFL, Mike&Mike, Sportscenter, 1st & 10, and the rest of the world and as will D'Brick when he reaches his full potential which is a few year's away.
funny how you bring this up once the media is slurping McNeill. Didnt hear you crying about D'Brick and needing McNeill when Brick went up against Seymour twice, Defensive MVP Candidate Jason Taylor, Dwight Freeney, Alex Brown/ Mark Anderson, etc. There were no rumblings from you crying over McNeill up until this week. Fact is if D'Brick was on SD and McNeill was on the Jets, D'Brick would be considered the ROTY because of the Chargers record and LT's TD records. If anything Nick Mangold or Marques Colston should be the ROTY front runners, not McNeill, but oh how quickly the media has forgotten about them, as if they havent done anything. Mangold has had more work to do taking over for a perennial pro bowl center without a hitch and tons of responsibility that come with that position and Colston was tearing it up before he sat out 3 games with an injury. D'Brick has had a harder schedule of opponents. McNeill's biggest challenges were Joey Porter and Derrick Burgess. D'Brick has gone up against harder competition with less talent to help him. Fact is D'Brick and Mangold are our best o-linemen and theyre rookies. McNeill on the other hand has 4 other good linemen and an all pro FB and a HOF record breaking RB to work with. D'Brick has been doing excellent considering our personnel.
