This is such a dumb poll and thread. I know. . . let's have another poll: what if your d*ck and your nose were reversed? does that mean your "nose" flops and you can now smell your own ass? Damn.
People overplay the importance of the playfake. You don't get a guaranteed pass on a playfake, even if you have a good running game going. You still have to make the throw. All it does is usually bring the safety in, but if you're going to throw a duck the safety will recover and make the play anyway. That's kind of why we never use it against good defenses, and why even with the playfake Chad has such low yardage in games. What is the point of faking the ball and then just dumping it off anyway?
The Jets were down 14 to the Giants in 2003 and Chad thrw 2 TDs in the last 6 minutes and forced OT. We didn't win but we forced OT. we were down 10-6 to jax in '03 as the O did nothing all day but he led us to a TD to win w/ 26 secs left. We were only down 1 but he led us to the GW FG w/ :58 secs left vs. Buf in '04. he led us to the tying Fg w/ 3 secs left at SL in '04. he also led us back from down 6 to jax last year to end it to OT(did it w/ his rotator cuff torn again). he would have 3 more IF Chrebet doesn't fumble at Chi in '02, IF Chrebet holds onto that TD against jax last year and IF the refs didn't screw us out of the Cle game this year. Like IS wrote we don't fall behind big alot when Chad starts. All there is to choose from is the Pats game at home in '04, the KC game last year, the Jax game this year. Manning's team always seeems to be down big.
That's because the Jets have played so conservatively over Pennington's career. And even then, if you look at each QB's turnover % over the course of there career there really isn't that big of a difference. Pennington's 3.5% and Eli's 3.8%. For a "game manager" Pennington turns the ball over way too much and he's certainly not the type of QB that can dig himself out of a hole when he starts off bad.
That's like getting the prom queen naked and ready in the backseat, only to be told at the last minute that it's past her curfew and she has to go home. Not good enough!
Well, Chad's not the kicker so don't blame him. Same as the Pittsburgh playoff game, put the onus where it belongs. The other thing that is pure nonsense is this notion that the coaching staff prepares a conservative short passing gameplan because Chad can't throw long. That's pure crap. Hackett ran his same offense when Vinny was QB before Chad even got in there and this staff came in no with no favorites at QB. They held an open competition to see who could run their offense and Chad walked off with it in about two weeks. If he couldn't do it they would have named someone else the starter. There's no way in hell they take over a team and immediately compromise their offense for a QB that nobody even was sure could play.
One point that nobody has mentioned: Behind the Giants offensive line, Pennington would get killed. Like, he'd seriously die. There's no way that he could escape the constant pressure because he's not mobile and he can't just gun it out in the face of pressure. I think that Manning would do pretty well on the Jets. He'd have more protection, much better coaching, and much less pressure and criticism.
i think eli would be better here and pennington would be better there.....they need more of a game manager type of qb and have a nice running game already in place......without a decent running game this year, a gunslinger type qb with our wr's would be a lot better for this team
It's a pretty difficult question to answer since both QBs are Jekyl and Hyde guys. Eli is the more talented QB when he's on his game, but Pennington is more consistantly on his game.
Pennington first year divisoin title win a playoff game Eli first year starting division lost at home in playoffs 2nd healthy season playoffs win 2 games eli this year might not make playoffs if so wont go anywhere When chad was healty in 02, and 04 he was easily a top 10 qb
And yet in a tougher division and conference Chad in his 2 healthy years has led the jets to the div rd while Eli needed an extra home game to make the playoffs and couldn't lead his team to a point. In '02 only one QB was better than him that year- Rich gannon. people forget Chad led the NFL in passing that year leading us out of a 1-4, 2-5 hole in the toughest division in the league where the last place team was 8-8.
That Giants team is a mess from the top on down, and anyway it's not like I'm sitting here clamoring for Eli Manning, I don't like him very much as a QB but I think he'd do better then Pennington here. I don't forget it. I just don't see what relation 02 Chad has to 06 Chad after 2 arm surgeries and the ducks we see floating around the stadium every week. By the way, the AFC West and NFC South were both better overall divisions then the AFC East.
Chad after 2 surgeries has led his team to a 7-6 record and in the playoff hunt w/ a team that many thought would win 3 or 4(which is what we'd have right now if Chad was hurt aagin) while Eli has a team that many thought could make a SB run and they are fighting for their lives in a weak NFC.
In 2002, Pennington led the team from behind to take the lead against KC with a minute left, only to have the defense let the Chiefs go right down the field. Against Cleveland in 02, Pennington led the Jets into FG range for the tying FG and Hall missed a shortie. In 03, he led the team to a go ahead score late in the game against Miami, only to have the defense blow it again in the final minute. In the Giant game in 03, not only did he lead the team to two TDs in the last 6 minutes, but put the team in FG range in OT only to have O'Brien blow it by taking that delay of game penalty. How about the winning drive this year against the Titans in the opener after the defense and Nugent squandered a Jet lead? In the Jacksonville game last year, he leads the Jets to a win in Chrebet holds onto the pass in the end zone. How many games are won in the last few minutes because a QB throws the ball 50 yards in the air? That's not what wins late.
No junc, Eli had a team that many thought could make a SB run. And the team started making what looked to be a Super Bowl run. Then Madison, Webster, Strahan, Umenyiora, Tuck, Arrington, Short, Petitgout, and Toomer went down. That's 2 starting corners, the top 3 DE's, a starting LB and his backup, the starting left tackle (fuckin' Whitfield) and Manning's most reliable receiver.
Eli wouldn't be able to manage the Jets offense and Chad wouldnt be able to get the ball down the field. Both flop.
Interesting question. I think both QBs would probably be worse if they were on the other teams. Coles/Cotchery are good fits with Chad because they fight for the ball and they are good possession receivers. Burress is not that type of receiver and I question if Chad can take advantage of Plax's deep play ability as well as Eli does. The presence of Shockey and Tiki would be great advantages. Eli's lack of accuracy would be a much bigger problem with the Jets. I don't know if Cotchery is really a deep threat and Coles for all of his speed has never been that "home run" receiver either. I don't know if they could fully take advantage of Eli's deep throws. I'm sure escaping the constant criticism from teammates could only help Eli though.
I am tired of the injury excuses from the Giants, yes they ahd some injuries but most of them guys were down for a few weeks. They didn't lose their QB, they didn't lsoe their RB, they didn't lose their top WR. That is when Eli has to step up and he did not. Eli was mediocre last year and has been even worse this year.
If Chad never got hurt he would have been fine and with all the Giants talent he would have been good. Eli will be a great QB.
