get Darnold a juice box and some cheez-its, dude!! you don't want the boy to develop a thumb sucking habit. The number one goal should be nurturing his growth. oh yah, and we will play David Fales to protect his feelings/mental health
I'm really tired of the baby the QB culture that has been developed. Is it all NFL franchises or is just this one? Because there were a lot of these thoughts about Sanchez too. Is it just because these kids are from Southern California? Mental fortitude and facing adversity is a big part of playing quarterback. You get up the same amount of times you get hit. I mean over the course of a couple seasons, I can understand it (ala David Carr syndrome). Darnold wasn't some abused rookie though. And for the most part, he's getting hit but he's not taking these egregious big hits.
Anybody wonder why the snap didn’t hit darnold I the chest. Not only was the timing wrong, but the snap was way right. That is how bad they suck.
You know the dumpster fire is fully blazing when a shitty lineman that should be happy he's even a starter is tossing fuel on the fire...
A fair comment but if I was the QB behind an o-line as porous as these fucks then i would have stopped speaking to them a long time back, they failed to do their job to an even adequate level and have lost the privilage to dog somebody else down. They are akin to our CBS chest slapping themselves when a WR is stopped, forgetting that they have already put 200 yards on the board. So fuck off Winters you fat useless cunt and take Robert's and Tru$$$ with you. You have not earned an actual cent all season you phat twats, GET OUT
Has it even been determined it was Darnold's fault at all. It was Winters who told Harrison to snap Sam could be keeping quiet to avoid making a bad situation worse If i'm picking whose at fault i think the odds are Winters misinterpreted something.
Winters is like a lot of our prior draft picks. the only reason they're on the team is the FO didn't want to cut even more of their guys showing how inept our drafting/development is he will not be missed, I'm sure of that
It is a completely different story with Sanchez. Sanchez was never capable of playing pro ball and the team had to be protected from him. With Sanchez the team had the best defense, best Ol 2 years and near the best the other 2. Teams sold out against the run not covering WRs. Sanchez never faced a pass rush. In the worst of his 4 years the OL was 5th and 11th best in qb pressures and qb hits. The problem was Sanchez took sacks at twice the rate of other qbs when pressured and was the all team leader in fumbles per game after 4 years. What made the problem worse was the Jets went from 58 percent run in 2010 to 42 percent in 2011 forcing Sanchez to play in conditions similar to a normal qb which he was never capable of doing. Darnold actually faces a real rush, has a terrible line and plays in the worst conditions possible facing more third and longs than any qb. Coddling Sanchez was correct as he could not play in normal qb conditions. But Darnold needs less coddling just some protection. Although with the beating he is taking mentally he might be needing a lot more protection. He needs to stabilize and regain some confidence. No qb has played in worse conditions. No qb faces more free blitzers. You want to ruin him sure leave him on an island like he is now. The point here is to develop a qb. That means helping him learn, giving him comfort in the pocket, allowing the game to slow down and growing his confidence. That is not done by making him a pinatta for opposing defenses to take free swings.
Winters developed better than what he looked like his first couple years. He's a 6th offensive lineman at best. He was repeatedly best first couple years with the same inside move. Where the defensive lineman starts their rush up field. Cuts inside, slaps his hands down and sacks the QB.
I wasn't really making the comparison of the situations as they're completely different. My issue came as Sanchez started to get into his third and fourth year and kept hearing about how careful we needed to be in protecting his psyche because of this or that. I'm kind of sick or needing to protect dudes mental states when they gave adversity. Barring injury, Sam stays in the game. The Patriots game wasn't even that far out of reach at the times advocating for Sam's benching to "help" him in the future. I mean if we kick the field goal right before half and come out and drive down the field (as we did before the pick), we're down two scores.
It was fairly obvious in the second quarter that Sam was done and no longer able to process information quickly enough to play QB. Leaving him in the last 2 quarters just exposed him to hits which has resulted in lasting damage. QB pysche and confidence is something every coach has to deal with. Sam might be advanced for his age and has been able to play in situations that other young qbs cannot but everyone has their limits. It was obvious he was done. The problem is now we are paying for leaving him in the NE game. Those injuries and mental scars take time to heal. He needs to be protected and treated more like a young qb than a veteran. I would argue even further that he needs to be benched for 2 weeks to regroup and heal.
