Yes... We absolutely did overrate this roster. We thought with Bell, Mosley and Osmele, we were on our way to the PO's. There were many who were predicting outlandish finishes like 11-5 sprinkled in with a few 12-4's. This BTW was after Johnson hired Gase too. This was a rebuilding year. This was an assessment year for the roster. This was NOT a playoff roster and it never was even before the injuries. We fooled ourselves into thinking it was. We drank the koolaid. Now we got a tummy ache. There was no way a new HC was gonna come in with a new system and in one year, turn this team around. This roster was 14-34 then and its 15-41 now. There's a reason for that and its not only Todd Bowles either. There is but for a precious few, a total lack of NFL caliber talent on this roster. There's really no getting around that no matter how shiny the new helmets are.. Now with the season done, the reality has hit home that indeed, our HC is a chronic loser and has to be replaced even if it means the CEO has to pay 3 salaries of people no longer here.. (MacCagnan, Bowles and maybe Gase). Once again, we will have to start over. This time, maybe we learn from our mistakes. This time maybe we let Douglas hire his own guy without any interference from the CEO whose record proves he knows jack shit about football. Maybe this time, we stop overrating our roster and accept what we have for what it is...We're not better than a lot of teams we used to look down on. In fact, a lot of those teams have caught up with us like it or not. Have a tall glass of reality folks. The New York Jets are exactly what their record says they are. A team that needs several GREAT drafts just to get back to mediocre. Keep your fingers crossed, but trust your instincts and what your eyes tell you.... It will serve you well looking down the road..
I expected 7-9 wins before the season started. I overrated the roster, but wasn't a sunshine filled optimist with green and white glasses on.
Only thing I overrated was this imbecile HC. I liked the opening roster enough to believe that adding Bell, Mosely and Osemele he could get 7 wins and an improving Sam this team could make a push for a WC in 2020. I hoped adding Williams could at least somewhat mask an horrendous CB situation. It is what it is, a dumpster fire of epic proportions...
Can we just hire Mcarthy and end this nightmare....I feel like hes a good fit for this team and the media...And will recive a heros welcome..Maybe after a year off he will be better and revitalized.
If we overrated the roster, why is Gase getting so much heat? This is purely a question...just curious lol.
Yes, we overrated this roster, but this head coach is not doing anything to coach it up to be slightly better than it is. Bowles won 4 games with a lesser team in 2018 and should've won 2 more if it weren't for defensive meltdowns.
Most of us had the Jets finishing around 8-8. We're probably going to go 3-13. Plenty of room to overrate the roster and still have the coach be terrible.
How can you overrate a franchise which has had so few accomplishments of note in the past 50 years? Hello! This is a team which is still owned by Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Hell, this staff couldn't even find a competent Kicker on the roster to start the season. I remember seeing some predictions in the preseason that the Jets will win 9 or 10 games because first year coaches do very well with the Jets. Anybody who uses that kind of logic to forecast a team's success should stay away from Vegas. If Gase can't squeeze five or six wins out of this team, then he definitely does not have the team on the right track. If you normalize the numbers for today's high offensive output, this is historically one of the worst offenses the league has ever seen. It's one thing to average 225 yards of offense per game in the 70's when there was much less scoring and passing in the game. But to do it in today's wide open game takes a special kind of sucking.
Because of all the overrating that went into Gase getting here. First, Peyton Manning overrated Gase's ability to develop Sam Darnold. Chris Johnson overrated Gase's ability to coach period. Macc owns a big part of this too by thinking the OL was adequate and concentrated on the DL for years. Put a shit coach with a shit team and you get a shit record.
There were a few of us that knew going into the season that there wasn't gonna be a playoff run even with our new FA additions. There were others that bought into the hype and figured on a quick turn around. I'd have to look at Brook's thread on predicting the '19 record but there were a few 10+ win votes.
I think there were a lot of people who weren’t expecting a playoff run. I’m sure someone will dig up the predictions thread soon enough.
