Yes, the quote you listed was said to Kiner, but a similar speech was made to Mantle. I remember reading it in one of his biographies. I have seen it verified over the years, but now can't remember the exact quote or who said it. It's possible that whomever it was in Yankee management that said that to Mantle may have been quoting Rickey.

the thing about Jamal Adams, he is a good football player. That means he was a good football player in Pop Warner, in high school, at LSU, etc. That means everywhere along the way he has had his ass kissed. I can only imagine what it was like to get recruited by LSU for example, all the butt kissing that went into that. So I imagine hearing his name in trade rumors was quite the shot to his ego, probably the very 1st time he hasn't had his butt kissed by someone in football circles. BUT still, this is the NFL, he's a grown man, you gotta have thicker skin than that. Where is his agent to tell him to grow up. A mentor maybe? an NFL veteran that he respects to put his arm around him and tell him to relax, welcome to the NFL, etc. ---- Also, Ryan Clark, fellow LSU alum and friend of Adams was on ESPN yesterday saying he spoke to Adams personally and Adams told him he would love to play for the Cowboys. I think his agent has to take some heat here. I bet he worded the info to cause some bad blood so the jets feel the need to get his deal done earlier than they planned and/or throw in a few extra dollars as an I’m sorry gesture.
