Listen, it's been a rough year (as usual) for jets fans. We aren't the only franchise who have suffered. We got hit with the injury bug hard. Darnold has missed more then half the season and 1 game he played with mono and wasn't himself. he's also suffering from a toe injury in which he lost a toe nail and a sprained thumb on his non throwing hand. it's not ideal for your starting QB to be this banged up. On top of that we lost on offense alone herndon who missed 4 games with suspension and then missed another 3 with a hamstring. Enunwa went down week 1 for the year. we traded for DT to replace him and he missed a few games as well. Beachum went down and missed the past 2 games. We signed a C out of retirement who has been awful and the LG we traded for also got hurt or decided to stop playing hurt and got unauthorized surgery and released. It's been a rough year for the offense.

Defense has been hit even worse. copeland was suspended for the 1st 4 games, shepard for the 1st 6. Q got hurt and missed 3 games, jenkins missed 3 games, avery went on IR in the preseason, mosely has missed pretty much the whole year. if we are lucky we'll have 4 games out of him on the season after signing a mega deal. hewitt has missed a couple of games as well. We are down to starting a 5th round rookie and a player we grabbed on waivers after cuts on the inside. CB has been a mess too. We all knew TJ and roberts aren't good. we had injuries to hairston as well.

The point of all this is, it's 1 season. some had high hopes, we all knew even when healthy with our brutal 1st half we would be at best 2 wins. which could still happen since we play miami on sunday. next season we can remake the o-line. winters is the only starter under contract for 2020. edoga who has been starting the past few weeks is getting good experience to start at RT in 2020. we can replace LT, C, and LG. JD will have a full offseason to improve the team. We should come back god willing with a healthy sam and healthy mosely next year. we have some promising young talent on the team with adams, maye, cashman, phillips, foley, Q, edoga, darnold. We'll have draft picks and some cap room to add a player or 2. The good thing is we have a ton of cap flexibility. Outside of Trumaine we aren't locked into any bad contracts and many high paid players can be released with little to no cap penalty. We are right where we expected to be funny enough despite all the injuries and suspensions and bad luck. Lets just ride out the season and evaluate what we have and have a little faith in JD to fix some holes in the roster and also be realistic about things

Thank god, now we can worry about what color uniforms we'll be wearing in the Super Bowl

I said it a while back, we should NOT get rid of leaders like Bell or Adams. We need to build around them.

It is unfortunate that Mac put us in this situation, but I trust Douglas to get us out. Injuries were out of our control, but getting rid of Gase is in our control. He needs to go. We need a fresh look at head coach with a history of winning.

Let Douglas work his magic come draft day

Speaking of injuries...these just confirmed my concerns going into the season.

The only way this team was a playoff team is if it stayed healthy and took care of the ball.

The roster is clearly not deep. Championship teams are all about one man down, another man up.

We have a long way to go.

I’m usually on the sunshiner side of the spectrum but we need to nail like 80% of the picks made in rounds 1-4 if we want to contend soon.

eh i mean out LBer group has shown to be rediciously deep. our 3rd-5th ILBs are outplaying other teams starters. not many teams would be without half their starting LBers by Q3 of week 1 and still be able to stop the run

    Good post G&C (GNC? :) )

Our team has just had rough breaks with injuries on both sides. Avery Williamson was awful, Mosley maybe even more stark because we got a glimpse of what he could do for the first 3 quarters of the season. Basically medium term the Jets need to do two critical things.
    1) Get an effective offensive line put together somehow.... however that may happen.
    2) Really start hitting on a few of our draft picks, most especially the premium ones.

And hope Darnold doesn't get slaughtered in the meantime.

Whats kinda funny is your plan wasn't what Douglas was hoping for...he clearly wanted to acquire more picks and trade the players you mentioned but the market wasn't high enough...so you trust Douglas but disagree with what he was trying to do....don't be surprised if these players are still moved in the offseason......and he's most likely not firing Gase so you basically disagree with his whole plan. lol

What Douglas needs to do is ( after cutting the dead weight ) go after EDGE, CBs, OL, and WR in FA. He may not get the top top tier but go after decent players. Then when it comes draft time he goes after the same positions. Double Dip....if he focuses on those four areas this team can be a lot better in 2020. You can't move the ball or control the LOS without an OL - it doesn't matter who the QB is. You can't score unless you have WRs who can catch the ball. You can't stop another team from scoring if the opposing QB has time to throw. You also can't stop another team from scoring if you have no CBs to guard their WRs. It sounds simple and silly but it's the truth as we can all see.

For instance I'll focus on OL.....what if he were to sign a guard like Brandon Sherff to replace Winters ? Then in the draft he selects an OT and a C within the first three rounds. Maybe finds another guard for depth in the 5th or 6th? You have a brand new line for 2020. Or sign a solid #2 CB in FA. Then find another CB in the second round? Now you have two new CBs to go along with Adams and Maye in the secondary....back to basics is what I say. Don't try to get cute and find bargains in the 5th round when the position could of been addressed with better talent in the 1st or 2nd round...….

I mostly agree with your take, but I'd take a WR in the first 2 rounds. I know I've said this before, but it can't be repeated enough. This is supposed to be a deep draft for WR's and I'd prefer to not strikeout like we did in 2014. Our offense really needs a game changing WR and those don't usually come as FA's.

They may very well trade them during the offseason or possibly on draft day.

They may draft one - I was just using OL as an example. They may not fix everything but they need to fix multiple positions …...I would be surprised though if OL isn't the first position to be overhauled. Simply for Darnold's safety.

Hopefully our QB isn’t ruined by the OL play this season. This OL could be historically bad and Sam’s mechanics have looked poor as a result.

He’s young and he’s a baller so I think he could pull through.

No we cant calm down because all the leaks from 1 jets drive is going to cost us in terms of player satisfaction. Adams is saying we stabbed him in the back--Leveon must be thinking nothings worth these aholes and we will lose robby at end of year for nothing.

This is what I'm worried about, and am now starting to lose trust in Douglas's plan as well.

IMO the team is moving in absolutely the wrong direction and it may manage to get a whole lot worse before it gets better.

This year has been an unmitigated disaster for the Jets.

players acting hurt or surprised about potential trade talks is ridiculous - they know and understand its a business more than anyone - the Jets were apparently asking for a 1st and two 2nd round picks which is pro bowl player in their prime level so all that says to Jamal is that the organization really rates him and he is going to get paid big time in due course - what is there to get upset about?

Jamal Adams should have found out more information than make a statement like that on Twitter.

Listening to Douglas' press conference explains it all. He was always taught that if a team calls, you listen. And he wasn't offered what he says the guys are worth to him.

He didn't "shop" them around at all.

Really cool listening to Douglas talk again. I'm excited to see what he does for this franchise.

Listening to offers for players is absolutely the right thing to do. What concerns me is that Douglas gave a ringing endorsement of Gase by calling him a great HC and communicator. Maybe he was just being nice and actually believes that Gase needs to go, but the only way to find out is wait.
