Would love him, never going to happen, i sense we will call and make him cupcakes, he'll go elsewhere, Atlanta?
I don't think adding Harbaugh who would want total control with a GM with 5 years of his contract left is compatible.
let him come in, just like the tuna did, and fix the mess. and then hope that the successor doesn't screw it all up again. maybe we get lucky and get new owners by then.
Hopefully, that's because he knew what a clueless, incompetent boob Mac was. Maybe he respect Douglas and would be willing to come here now.
I hear you, Kurt, but to have the team earning respect and building a winning culture, I'd do it in a NY minute, even if going in I knew it would only last 3 years. With the league going to smaller and quicker defensive players, maybe it's time for some team to bring in a Hog Molly OL and a big bruising RB. The pressure to carry the team would be taken off of Sam, he would be protected, his mechanics and accuracy could return to what they were, and the Jets could win.
I would be shocked beyond words if Rhule agreed to come here after the way he was treated last year. I just don't see any chance of that happening.
I wanted him. It would've been a dream come true. I still would welcome him here with open arms. But if he can't own college football why would he do better in the pros the second time around? And have to wonder if he's been away for too long he's been away seven, eight years now? He should've never left the pros.
I don't think there is evidence that Rhule was treated badly or unreasonably. The FO simply asked to surround him with experienced coaches in Williams and Monken. Coming from college with no coaches with much NFL experience to help a young coach navigate his first season seems like a recipe for disaster. What may have been the problem here was comminication of what was expected or it possibly could have been Rhule having second thoughts, buyers remorse or the realization that he would be leaving some people he cared about behind. I have a hard time believing even Johnson would offer a coach a job and only then when the coach accepts say the job is conditioned on X, Y and Z. But, possible reasons are endless but whether it is Rhule next or someone else the communication needs to be a lot better with the next hire. Hopefully, Douglas can help in running a more professional search.
Rhule planned on bringing in a staff with little to zero NFL experience. That would've been a disaster at this level with Gase, or worse. Like Freddie Kitchens - he was underexperienced and underprepared. And the results would've been similar, ie lots of penalties, time management gaffes and a lack of respect in the locker room The fact that he lied about the Jets after they simply chose someone else is a view into his character as well Harbaugh on the other hand? hell yeah, he's just what this team needs. But does Douglas have any connection to him??? or would it be another arranged marriage?
I gotta ask. What are some of you basing Harbaugh as a failed coach in Michigan off of? The fact he has lost to Ohio State everytime? Ohio State has recruited far better than most for a long time. Only a few have done it better. Yet, Michigan plays hard and competitive every time. Harbaugh came very close to winning a couple of those games even. He hasn't had a losing season, his team has played and won against some really good teams as well despite the talent differences. I don't understand.
Michigan expects far better than not having a losing record. He was brought in to compete for a playoff spot and win a championship, which he has not come close to. Also yes losing to Ohio St every team is also a failure and using recruiting as an excuse doesn’t hold water considering Harbaugh is responsible for recruiting. Not one person associated with Michigan thinks Harbaugh has been anything other than a failure.
I agree. And I don't think in most circumstances he'd be looked at as a failure there. But there's a media pitchfork out for him because he can't beat Ohio State. I wouldn't call it crazy to speculate he and/or Michigan might be looking for a change.
people from Michigan are dumb as rocks though. If/when Harbaugh leaves they will be in for quite a surprise with the expectations they have. I don't believe they will ever win a national championship again also, it's much harder to recruit Michigan than it is Ohio State or even Penn State. For one, the academic standards are higher at Michigan and 2, the recruiting ground is less fertile
Just because your name is Jim Harbaugh, doesn't change the recruitment standards on a university basis. There is a lot more factors involved than just a big name coach at a high tier university. Michigan is not on the same level as other programs like Ohio State, Alabama, or LSU. Michigan still gets good recruits but they are still a level underneath. Michigan fans that I know, speak to, are thrilled that Harbaugh is the coach. I feel the media really manipulates people, makes those that aren't super familiar with the team, think that everyone disapproves of someone like, Harbaugh. From my perspective, it's just not true. The games I've watched, they have played very sound and disciplined football. They just aren't as talented in most cases against other elite programs, but, that hasn't stopped Michigan from beating some of these "elite" teams along the way. They have pushed for playoff spots, I'm not sure why you think they haven't? Michigan was kinda trash before Harbaugh got there, it takes time to build a program up, especially at the college level, with recruiting being the way to do this, it's a different kind of task than in the NFL. Losing to Ohio State everytime isn't ideal, I wouldn't call it a failure though. It shouldn't define Harbaugh and his overall resume. If he completely shit the bed, we would be having a different conversation. He has literally found success in every HC position he has held since Standford, at least. I haven't followed his coaching before that. Failure isn't the word I would ever use to describe, Harbaugh. That's my main point. That last statement just isn't true. Not ONE person associated with Michigan? C'mon....
There was a lot of publicity that Rhule was going to be the Jets' new HC. Some posters here have even said that it was officially announced, and then pulled back. It sounded very much at the time like the requirement that he accept Williams and Monken was a last minute requirement. If that had been up front, I don't believe that things would ever have gone as far as they did. It's possible that he had a last minute change of heart about his CS, but even if so, I don't see any reason to go back and re-open that coversation. It would just make the Jets look weak. I agree that Rhule coming with his college staff who had no NFL experience would have been a disaster. Well, if the Jets were to go back to Rhule, he would have the leverage, and if the Jets wanted him, they'd be forced to accept that situation, and it still would be a disaster. Yes, hopefully, Douglas can help in a myriad of ways, from making sound FA decisions, draft decisions, from running a more professional search, and hiring a quality HC.
I said at the time and have said again yesterday and today that hiring Rhule with his CS would have been a disaster. What makes you think that Rhule lied about the Jets? To the best of my recollection, I have neither seen nor heard anything that would indicate that he did.
he said HE turned the Jets offer down because he wanted to bring his assistants with him. That's a lie, the Jets just chose Gase instead of him
How do you know which is true? Mac could have easily lied to save face that a college coach turned him down.
