If Darnold doesn’t pan out, we will likely continue to suck for at least another 3-4 years. The Johnsons desperately need to hire a Head of Football operations who actually knows the game. Hand him the keys and then shut up and stay out of the way. The problem is that the Johnsons are not savvy or interested enough to find that person on their own.
Bringing in another top QB draft pick doesn't need to mean you're giving up on the one you already have. Unconventional thinking for sure but perhaps it is time to break the mold this team has been using. Or abusing.
Back in 1984 I seriously considered the Rams (because I'm from Derby) and the Patriots (because of the England thing). But I liked the name 'New York Jets'. For fuck's sake... I liked the NAME.
Wouldn't be unheard of. I think the Chargers drafted Rivers/Manning after Brees's second year. It seems like the Jets may have to draft a QB every year in order to get it right.
The Knicks still did the right thing. Irving wasn't coming here and he's always injured. Durant is out for the whole season and no telling how he will look when he returns. The Knicks have some young players and I would rather develop our own than sign someones else's. Barrett, Robinson, Trier, Knox are nice pieces. If they can get a good point guard and maybe try and sign Donovan Mitchell.
Trust guys who don't have skin in the game (the firm that chose Idzik, Casserly and Wolf, and Peyton Manning), and you get what you deserve.
If it makes you feel any better, as a child I think I picked the Jets over the Giants mostly because they were green. The Giants were blue, and that was boing-- it was everybody's favorite color, and half the teams were blue. Green was unique! That, and the name was cool. ;-)
Yes, things worked out but that wasn't Dolan's and the knick braintrust plan was it... They wanted to clear max cap space for 2 huge FA's and gambled on the mystic of MSG to be the draw. That clearly didn't happen and as was stated by KD and others, the aura of playing for the Knicks is gone with this new generation.
The only thing new about how bad this season has been is they finally drafted a elite QB prospect and they couldnt figure out how to support him....I mean hiring a failed weirdo from Miami instead of a SB winning coach is just insane.
which is why i kept arguing that we should keep teddy the return on the trade was garbage. we also had to give them a 5th? dumbazz gm! imagine how much better off we could have been if he had invested 2nd rounders in the o-line instead of hackenberg, smith, etc.
