Lol what was the right idea Idzik had? He had no vision that he ever defined. He sat on his hands and never acted when it was needed. 12 picks and he never moved around in the draft. His answer to QB was Geno and the animal abuser Vick. Our defense prioritized the CB position and he did nothing. Sunk our season. Sat by and watched as Revis signed with the Pats. The drafts were epicly bad. There was no redeeming moves or traits. Mac at least got Woody to vastly expand the scouting budget, he was extremely active in finding value with trades, waiver claims, UDFA’s, etc... He was actually active in FA to try to improve team. He had a philosophy in FA to stack guarantees to allow out clauses after two years, which led to good cap mgmt Idzik has no vision or plan at all in contrast. He struggled to find value or talent in any aspect. It was remarkably bad. I think there is a lot of recency bias here.
Idzik inherited an absolute cap nightmare. Hamstrung by all the big backloaded contracts we gave to players like Calvin Pace and Brandon Moore and friends. The reason the Jets kept adding pieces during the AFC Championship games run is that they kept backloading contracts that stayed guaranteed at the backend. Idzik's strategy was no big contracts that will hamper the franchise and compile draft picks including through compensatory picks because you're not that active in free agency. Idzik then set himself up for the big free agency that Maccagnan got to spend only to try to rewind two years and signed Revis as he was about to be on a downturn. It DID become a disaster because he was a bad talent evaluator when it came to the draft. But it wasn't the wrong strategy. It really would've been interesting to see what Idzik did in that free agency.
Well I can't even say what Maccagnan's strategy was. The only good thing he ever did was trade up for Darnold which could end up going to waste if we David Carr him into not wanting to play football anymore.
Idzik's strategy was no contracts to anyone, and utterly fail with too many picks in the draft. He HAD a chance to do something in FA in '14, and he sat on it, throwing the CS under the bus in the process. We saw clearly how Idzik would do with money to spend in FA, as we had plenty of money to spend at that point. It was futile. Mac was able to spend in FA, without hamstringing the organization with cap issues. That is the right approach, and for the most part, he brought in good pieces that way. And fwiw, Revis was not that bad a signing, as he gave us one very solid year, and we were able to get rid of him after 2. Idzik botched that one completely, as we could've had him still in prime, and away from the Pats.
My respect for Eric Mangini increases with each head coach we add that chooses to neglect the offensive line.
I can name about 20 good things Mac did in the last two years alone. Tell me what Idzik's strategy was (other than doing nothing), and what he did to address the QB position? Also anything of value he did. It really isn't even a debate in comparison. While Mac was ineffective in many areas, there was at least some good to go along with the bad. Idzik had No plan, no execution, no draft picks, no FA, no redeeming moves at all. He threw the coaching staff under the bus after extending them.
Mangini was one of the worst HC's we ever had. His first move was ensuring Mawae's release, and getting into a feud with Pete Kendall. Our 2 team leaders on the Oline. He had no people skills at all. Wasn't a leader and tried to be Belichick without the expertise. Those people skills are also why I don't think Gase will ever be effective.
Mac was def better then Idzik...I honestly didnt think Mac was the worst i think whe was in the middle somewhere...He should have never let the Johnson idiots hire that scumbag Adam Gase...Who would go on to get him fired..They gave a losing football coach full control of the team...Fire Gase now!!!
haha, you quoted me before my edit. Was just typing that it's similar reasons why I can't stand Gase!
