Going Out Leo Williams - doesn't seem he'll be around long term. We are really deep on the d-line too. phillips has shined, we have anderson, mclendon just got extended, we have Q, and foley has looked good too. Saving his money (around 9 mil left on his deal for 2019) would help out a lot. We could likely get at least a 3rd rounder of not a 2nd or a 3rd and a later pick (5th or 6th) Trumaine Johnson - doesn't have much value, but a desperate team may be willing to take a flyer. at this point it's just to clear cap as he hasn't played well enough to justify his contract. Likely most we get back is a 6th or 7th rounder. If not we'll probbaly cut him after the season Osemele - doesn't seem like he'll ever play another down as a jet. Has 6 mil left on his 2019 salary. Won't be here in 2020. Some team though in need could give up a pick (likely a 6th or 7th) and extend him to a new deal so he plays this season and then gets surgery after the season. Not very likely though. He'll likely sit and do nothing all year at this point Coming in CB William Jackson - Bengals are 0-7 and need to go full teardown mode. He's on year 4 of his rookie deal so cheap in 2019 (1.1 mil remaining) this would allow us to essentially cut trumaine and eat his dead cap now while having his replacement. He's locked in for 2020 as well at 10mil. As it stands we don't have any CBs that will be here in 2020 (roberts and tru are likely cut, poole and hairston are in their final year) leaving us only with austin who has yet to play a snap due to injury and was a 6th rounder. CB will be a huge need in the offseason we can address now and he'll cost less then peterson both pick wise and cap wise and is younger and be a starter here for the next 3-4 years. Likely cost us a 3rd or 4th CB Desmond Trufant - another option at CB, trufant is locked into a contract for this year and the next 3 years all at reasonable money for a starting CB and none of it is guaranteed. Likely cost a 2nd to 4th rounder WR Devante Parker - interdivison trades are rare but we ddi trade for a WR with NE a few weeks ago, why not do the same with miami? they are in full teardown mode and parker hasn't produced there but is a decently talented WR who's young and also under contract cheap in 2020. would be worth a late round flyer as we need the WR depth and looking into 2020 really only have crowder under a deal as a legit WR. Anderson, parker, crowder, and 1 mor eplayer (FA or rookie) would be a ncie addtion to help sam and the offense. would likely be cheap like a 5th rounder. If we can give up a 3rd and 5th rounder to get a starting CB and WR help both locked in for 2020 as well, that would be huge. especially if we can get that 3rd back by moving leo. It's not much capital to give up at all and already starts addressing offseason needs.
dont think anyone would touch Osemele or Trumaine, Leo maybe, but i also dont think they will acquire any players that arent O-line bc they will cost too much
osemele and tru probably not. we could cut them to save cap and a roster spot though. leo has a lot fo teams wanting him and would be easy to move and we have leverage since he will net a 3rd round comp pick so that's the floor of what we would get, also fans here are way too obsessed with the o-line. you don't refuse to fix 1 hole because you have another hole. nothing out there for o-line right now. we can use the draft and FA to fix the o-line
Thoughtful post. But no way any team wants TJ at this point - even if the Jets ate money. Leo is most realistic. He could probably fetch a 3rd and the DL is the Jets deepest position sans an outside pass rush. I like the Jackson idea. Not sure if the Bengals would trade him and he may cost more than just a third. You are correct regarding the OL - I think between FA and more so the draft the Jets can solve a lot of it’s problems during this coming off season. It really needs to be the focus - more than anything else if necessary.
I don't want the jets picking anyone up at the trade deadline. I want draft picks. We've suffered a decade of bad drafting, if Joe Douglas is as good as many around the NFL say he is, then he will be able to fill this roster with young talent that has an immediate impact. The jets are not going to be saved by mid season acquisitions.
You don't want our new GM to have plenty of picks at his disposal? Good thing you aren't a GM either.
I want a GM who will use anything to improve the team. no stone unturned. not a GM who buys into doing things 1 way and sticks to it. A pick is just a potential player and potential bust. the draft is a crap shoot. If you can trade 1 for a player on good value you take it. why do you think the top teams are buyers? that's why they are the top teams. How are all those extra picks helping the dolphins? go be a dolphin fan then they have a ton of picks
he's better then anyone we'll get in the 5th or 6th round most likely and gives us good depth at WR we need. are you not aware we literally started a WR off someones practice squad?
I too favor the picks, but if we have a chance to get a proven, young performer in a position of need, then it makes sense to do it because draft picks are historically unreliable. Maybe Douglas is a genius drafter, but maybe not. I wouldn't give up any 1sts, and probably not any 2nds, but I think with a team as talent poor as the Jets you have to leave all options open.
don't spend any picks - this season is already garbage - we need to get a top 2 pick and then trade it to someone for a fortune that wants to get Tua or Herbert (or draft one of them ourselves if Darnold continues to splutter)
what young proven performer are you going to get in the trade window that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg?
for all you people wanting tons of picks, just remember that is the same exact thing idzik did his 1 year here. broke down the team got 12 picks and then whiffed on 11 of them setting us back forever. it's also the same thing miami is doing right now we all laugh at. don't be that dense
Personally, I don't know. Just saying that if one is available for the right price, I would give up a lower pick or two given how the odds of draft picks succeeding are so low.
I just have this weird feeling Gase is lobbying to trade Bell, a guy he never wanted in the first place.
