There is a difference between being great one week and being bad the next week vs being great one week and completely melting down the next week. What we saw tonight was an extreme lack of mental toughness and every skill he had went out the window. Its a concern.
No it’s not, it’s called a bad game. See my bipolar fan base post, it’s aimed right at you and the rest of the idiots in this thread, Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Fans aren't bipolar, fans react to the way their team plays. You have it ass backwards.[/QUOTE] My pervious post goes for you too. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Sam hasn't had enough consistently good games to offset his historically bad games to this point. I think it's insane to talk about replacing him at this point but it's not insane to say that tonights game was not just a bad game it was a complete turd.
All I said was its a concern. If you don't think we have a serious concern with our QB right now you are in denial. He played worse against the Pats than Luke Falk...and it was Falks first NFL start.
Sam wasn't great last week. He was very good. We were fortunate that his two bad throws in key spots didn't kill the good he did. It's not hyperbole to say Sam was awful tonight and looked like he didn't belong on the field. It is hyperbole to say Sam was great last week. He was good not great.
Can't make a judgement on him with Gase and co. as his coaches. Let's face it Gase's offense doesn't make anyone look good.
Darnold ne You nailed it. He does not have appear to have neither the physical, nor mental confidence to attack the defense, regardless of what type of OL he has in front of him. There were several occasions where he had time to throw or run and was still indecisive and off balance. His body language is saying that he is throwing from a defensive posture and definitely worrying about taking a beating. When a defense as good as the Pats senses that, they will smell blood and devour the opposing QB. It is virtually impossible to succeed playing scared at the NFL QB position. The Jets did the kid a disservice by handing him the keys to the kingdom without an effective, if not serviceable OL and little talent at the WR position. Even franchise QBs are only as good as the team which surrounds them.
The most depressing thing to me is when I think back to when he was drafted the joy I felt then when I look at what this season has turned out to be. When Falk was in there, Darnold's game last night. Seasons like this, QB performances like this were supposed to be a thing of the past once Darnold was selected. Yet here we are again. It's foolish to think that drafting another QB willl make everything alright. The Jets problems run much deeper than that. I wish I had the answers.
Anyone who isn't at least slightly concerned after that is as delusional as those already ready to give up on Darnold. It is just one terrible game for sure, and offset to some extent by a very good game last week, but the signs there were very concerning. It is way too soon to be raising the white flag and talking about drafting a replacement, but it isn't too soon to say that there were some very worrying signs. It might just prove to be a one-off, I hope so, and a consequence of a poor O line, a good D and great HC, or it might not. Hopefully Darnold will realise that it wasn't the OL that caused those picks, they were bad decisions and bad throws and come back stronger.
You don’t go out, buy a Ferrari and park it on the streets; you protect it. By the same token, Darnold needs to have a phantom diagnosis that lands him on IR. So does Bell. No reason for them to play this season. The O line is nonexistent. The coaching is pathetic. Just end the season without damaging the long term investments, please. Also, fuck the Johnsons Bros for hiring Gase. What was he thinking? Also, will it be weird when the GM he vouched for has to fire him? And, again, fuck the Johnsons.
I always tell players...i can coach plays, show you what to do and how to do it, but i cant coach heart. Gase knows he was shook when he had the talk with him on the sideline. Darnold said he was seeing Gholston!!! Lol...its over! Even if we replace the coach qb's can't lose their composure...the qb gotta be a tough individual...maybe he's worried about his spleen? Usc is not QB U!
They beat a bully team last week when Sam was barely touched the whole game. This week Sam was the bully that went down after the first punch. Maybe believing his own press too after he was AFC Offensive player of the week. If anything it concerns me more that he folded so quickly after such a good game last week, it's not like he's been getting pressured five or six weeks straight where you could say the ghosts comment was a cumulative effect.
It's not even just that he was bad, it's that he lost his poise THAT quickly to the point where he was seeing ghosts after less than a half. You can't be that mentally fragile and play in the NFL.
