If the British cared about their HK "Subjects" they would have given them British citizenships and allowed them to seek asylum in Great Britain. HK is part of China. They have a little over 7 million people. Are you willing to give them asylum in the USA? I certainly would.
Dunno, the Olypics in Beijing, that thing looked like a human rights shredder to me. Anyway, Colin Kaepernick, the champion of human and civil rights abuses everywhere, obviously doesn't give a shit about human and civil rights abuses in China. In case anyone suddenly developed a case of selective amnesia, he signed a multi-year contract with Nike. What's that smell? Hypocrisy. Just sayin'.
I'll keep Trump out of it after this, but I have to do it just this once. I was flicking the channels and landed on The Keep America Great Rally in LA. I watched it for roughly 30 seconds. In that roughly 30 seconds I got Pocahantas (Elizabeth Warren), Sleepy Joe (Joe Biden), Shifty Schiff (Adam Schiff), and Nervous Nancy (Nancy Pelosi). Hahahahaha. As you were.
the UK should give Hong Kongers* citizenship. They already have UK passports and it would be a gesture of good faith and a line in the sand against China. But the UK has shitty leadership of their own obviously, like many nations at the moment *not sure if Hong Kongers is the proper term but I love the way it sounds
Shitty leadership is the norm around the world right now. The amount of government changes and separatist movements is on the rise world wide. I just came back from Spain. They have had 4 governments in 4 years and have 2 separatist movements in country right now. There's terrible leadership in Hungry, Poland, Turkey, Saudi Arabia and of course Xi is one of the worst. Trump has certainly cozied up to some of the worst dictators in the world. He literally crawled on his belly to meet with Kim in North Korea during the Japan summit. Hong Kong is interesting. The protestors essentially got what they wanted and the police action against the protestors has been tame by any standard. Here in the USA if mass protests last more than a few hours the police usually come in very hard. I still remember the national guard shooting on a peaceful protest at Kent State when I was in my teens and of course the police action against protests in Detroit lead to some of the worst rioting, looting and police murders. When Brooklyn erupted under Dinkins he literally let the borough turn into a week long riot. Giuliani on the other hand came in with heavy handed police action immediately. For all the talk about the PRC heavy handed action, if these protests were going on in any western city to this extent there would have been mass arrests, injuries and probably a few bodies. I've been surprised how low key the PRC has actually reacted to the protests.
Aren't we all... Remember when Colin Kaepernick was exercising his free speech, a first amendment right? He got blackballed and the President of the USA told owners to fire players for essentially exercising their free speech rights by taking a knee to protest against racial abuse. Money is a great tool but its also corrosive and corrupting. Apparently it doesn't matter if your system is capitalism or communism.
