The only constant in these last 20 years are the johnson's. At some point, won't you question draft strategy of whatever inept GM you have? And ask why are we neglecting the Oline? Why are we drafting another defensive player and why another Dlineman?
It took me a long time to vote for one of these two, as they both did nothing to help this organization. Ultimately i went with Mac as the worse. With Idzik, it was obvious he was terrible with everything he was doing. Mac, I defended his moves and thought we were on the right track, but he was just as bad of a "drafter" than Idzik, and this team is far from being elite. Mac had more time and has little to show for it.
While every day that goes by makes me rethink this more and more..Idzik takes the cake..while he brought in decker and ivory, which probably trumps and FA, sans marshall, that geek Mac did..the Idzik 12 ultimately puts him over the top I’ll never forget someone on here posting..just a few games into his career that, “Pryor is already well on his way to being a Milliner Level Bust” words that proved to be prophetic 2 other gems from this board: “Both Idzik draft classes might be the worst of all time” *thats a great subject for a documentary btw And “Idzik missed on every pick he had”..And ya know what? Enuwa was a hit..Richardson is a debatable hit..and so is winters..so that almost was true
After thinking about it for a while, this is what made Macc worse IMO. He reached for a QB in round 2 in 2016, so he decided to pass on 2 far better QB prospects in round 1 the following year. This forced him to trade up last year, depleting us of draft capital.
MacIdiot was worse and it is not even close. MacIdiot actually had FIVE drafts with the jets, not four, and in those 5 drafts selected a grand total of 3 OL in 5 years, two of those in round 5, and the other at the end of round 3. If you wonder why our current OL is a price of shit, it is because of McIdiot. If you need more proof of his stupidity, look at MacIdiot's RIDICULOUS 2017 draft. He drafted FOUR DBs and 3 receivers in ONE draft and took ZERO OL or DL. Does the dumb shit think the game is just played outside the numbers? Should have been fired after that draft!
There's no doubt about it, those decisions were totally stupid. He made a number of other stupid decisions, but at least he got us the best players we have (Darnold, Adams, Herndon, Maye, Bell, Crowder, Anderson, L. Williams, hopefully Q. Williams, and Cashman looks like he could be a find. The jury is still out on Edoga and Wesco. Idzik acquired two players that are still on the team: Enunwa and Winters. Most of Idzik's picks didn't even make the team their first year, and almost all were gone after 1-3 years. From Mac's first two drafts we still have L. Williams, Jordan Jenkins, Brandon Shell, and Lachlan Edwards. The bottom line is that both sucked, and it's sad that we have two successive GMs vying for all-time worst Jets GMs if not NFL GMs.
except geno wasn't really a reach; he was supposed to be first round material (now of course we know how that unfolded but you could make the case Geno was a smarter pick than Hack)
Yeah, actually I think it was the sporting news that had Geno mocked as the number 1 pick overall about 3 weeks before the draft. Hackenberg, though, was considered a late round pick by everyone on the planet other than MacCagnan.
The problem is, the QB crop the NEXT year was much deeper. [Jets had a shot at Derek Carr for instance.] Moreover, Jets O is fucked either way around - Sanchez or Geno. It's almost amusing to me, when people mention Hack and Petty, but not Geno. [They are all stupid picks in the same vein, under same circumstance.] As in - yeah, Petty might have been terrible, but was he ever 3-picks-in-3-possessions-in-the-1st-quarter bad? You know Geno was that bad. [He scored for the Bills twice on his own. Bills had to punch in the second INT themselves.] I am not defending Mac here - both were comically inept. Hence the thread.
not disagreeing. Point was that Hack by all accounts was a reach -- no one had him that high. I also think he probably faltered more than anyone expected. Many reasonable people thought that Hack as a freshman could be revived -- apparently wrongly. But since he sucked at the time of the draft most were flabbergasted that he was a second round pick. That was Macc swinging for the fences and missing badly Geno at some points was a high first rounder. He had a game in college where he had more TD passes than incompletions. True he never put it together but the pick seemed more defensible. All of this goes to my larger point over the last several years. The team has no identity and thus the whole notion of BPA when drafting goes out the window. "Best" has to be assessed relative to something you value -- e.g., if your team identify is a mobile QB so be it; is it a strong arm in the pocket type you'll have a different version of best. Ditto for linemen and just about every other position The really smart teams also establish an identity where it's easier for them to find value. For example, the Pats offense is predicated on quick release passes. As a result they've never had to overspend on linemen, and in fact they've been able to effectively utilize players who are otherwise slightly out of favor, e.g., one-dimensional line men good at run blocking. The Seahawks did this years ago prioritizing long players in the secondary (over speed which was very expensive then)
If the team turns around with Darnold and Douglas and with or without Gase, then Chris. If not, then Woody.
Chris by a wide margin. Woody constantly meddled and made stupid decisions. While Chris hasn't meddled nearly as much, he's also been too hands off, hence not monitoring Mac closely and firing him late. At the time that Chris fired Mac, he made several comments to indicate that he may have learned some things and there's at least hope that he will become a better, if not good owner. There's no hope for Woody. He was just flat out awful.
How do you figure that? Woody was flat out awful. He was constantly meddling and had no idea what he was doing. Most, if not all, of his decisions were wrong. Chris has not made nearly the mistakes that Woody made, and hasn't meddled like Woody did. Chris' only mistake so far was keeping Bowles and Mac too long. He admitted at the time of firing Mac that he hadn't been paying close enough attention and that Mac should have been fired earlier. That shows some ability to learn from his mistakes. Woody never showed any ability to learn. Chris' comments at the time of firing Mac and hiring Douglas seem to indicate that he is going to let Douglas run things and that Chris is just going to monitor things. That would be a huge improvement. Think Woody would do that? I don't for a second. Chris may have screwed up by letting Mac run FA and the draft this year and in hiring Gase, but if the latter hadn't happened, we'd probably still have Mac and not Gase. It appears that Gase has helped Chris learn, and Douglas should certainly continue Chris' learning. Douglas may not be a Pres. or VP of Football Operations, but he may be the next best thing if Chris indeed lets him call the shots. Hopefully, as Douglas proves his worth, Chris will change the org chart and stop this foolishness where both the HC and GM report to Chris, will let Chris run the show and the HC report to Douglas. Again, I don't think that would ever happen with Woody.
Idzik brought in even less talent than Mac (if that's possible) but Mac screwed us with the cap again. We are wayyy too cash strapped compared to the talent level of the team. Highest paid, but worst performing Oline in NFL is an example of that.
