4 straight starts with 3 different catchers Noah has allowed at least 4 runs. Maybe we should bring Piazza out of retirement. He’s 51 might actually be able to throw a runner out.
With every start Noah's trade value goes down. You really have to wonder if this really is all there is with him. Or, of course, he could go somewhere else, get his head on straight, and win multiple Cy Young Awards.

I see that no one has commented on the decision to retire Jerry Koosman’s number 36. Wilpon also hinted that more retired numbers were to come. I would think Carter’s #8 would be next, in keeping with his desire to have a split Expos/Mets cap on his HoF plaque (which they refused). Who else? Staub? Hernandez? Gooden? Strawberry? I wouldn’t be in favor of that.
That's quite a statistic - Pete Alonso is the fifth player to have 51 home runs and 118 RBI in a season when 24 or younger. The other four? Jimmie Foxx, Ralph Kiner, Willie Mays, and Mickey Mantle. That's pretty select company.

Big facts right here. I think I heard yesterday on the radio that it's the 12th time a team will have CY Young and ROY, but the first time said team will miss the postseason.
I will be surprised if deGrom wins. I think all of the people who really didn’t want to vote for him last year but had to because he was so overwhelmingly the best pitcher in baseball won’t vote for him this time. The fact is that he didn’t really get going until June, and I think those voters will hold that against him. On the other hand, Alonso should win going away.
No comments on Pete tying the rookie record with his 52nd? He's got two more games to try and break it. Update on the admittedly fake stat quoted earlier: Kiner and Mays only had 51 home runs in their 24-and-under year, so Alonso, Mantle and Foxx are the only people with 52 home runs and 119 RBI at the age of 24 or less. Mantle hit exactly 52, so if Pete hits one more, he and Jimmie Foxx will be the only 24-year-old players in history with 53 home runs and 120 RBI in a season. His comment on it after the game: "When I was rounding the bases, I felt like a little kid. I felt like a 7-year-old kid. I was overcome with pure joy and emotion. ... I can't think of a happier time in my life playing baseball." Anyone who doesn't like this kid is just an asshole.

I’m disappointed in the Mets, obviously, but I’d be happy for the players if deGrom wins the CYA along with Alonso getting the ROTYA. It is unsuccessful season, but at least it would be productive, especially with the long range implications for deGrom.
