In an SNY story dated today at 6:34 PM about Darnold's return it says "A few hours after Gase and Darnold spoke (today), the Jets cut QB Luke Falk, making Darnold's return in Week 5 seem even more likely."

The Jets website is mute, Google has nothing nor does nfl.com.

    Is this really possible?

Edited to add: When I opened this thread I'm pretty damn sure the title had a question mark at the end, not a period. If I screwed it up, I apologize; if someone changed it, why?

I just posted this in the exsting Luke Falk thread. It's suggested there that this was an error by the blog, that it was Fales that was cut.

More than likely Danny Abriamo who wrote the SNY piece got David Fales and Luke Falk confused because numerous sources cite the release of Fales

Who cares which JAG QB got cut? The important part is, like @Ralebird said, this could mean Darnold is coming back after the bye.

He was on the Kay show today. Said the spleen is shrinking but still enlarged. Will get checked again Monday but very optimistic.

If you want more optimism because I'm in a relatively good mood... So far in Darnold's career, he's gone up against an unusually tough slate of opposing defenses. And going up against easy defenses is a big reason why Mayfield looked good last year, and why Allen and Jackson (and Daniel Jones for that matter) look good this year. Well, the second half of this season (after the Eagles, Cowboys, and Pats) is full of easy defenses. Maybe we'll finally see him break out.

Assuming he got mono around Week 1, I find it hard to believe he'd be game ready by Week 5. The internal organs affected can be enlarged for 2 months making the risk for internal bleeding much higher.

Aside from a team marketing perspective, what's the rush in bringing Darnold back? The team is gutterbound regardless. Let him sit out the whole season and try to put some semblance of a team together next season, because this nonsense won't cut it and can really end up affecting the kid's long term confidence.

Wouldn't rush him back vs Philly either. Maybe Dallas. But even them I'm not too keen on putting him behind such a trash line

The season is lost. We had high hopes and god shit all over us again. It's all about 2020 now and last thing I want to see is Darnold and some kind of spleen catastrophe

I honestly don’t know how I will handle it if Darnold is a bust. I’m truly all in on Darnold being a great qb.

If we don't bring Darnold back, how are we going to evaluate him and Gase?

Simple. Sam is great. Gase sucks.

Fales is now running around his backyard shirtless and celebrating.

I'd like to think Sam is great, but I'm genuinely not sure. And if we sit Sam all season, we might just get the #1 pick and be staring at Tua. As for Gase, yeah but Douglas and the Johnsons might need more convincing.

If he's a bust, we need to do the opposite of what we did after Sanchez proved to be a bust: Go out and get another QB. If he doesn't work, get another one.

Sam's not going to see the field until the medical professionals treating him say he's good to go, regardless of what he or the coaching staff may want. The insurance company will never let it happen - this is a business and it's their money at stake.

I'm not worried about Sam from a talent perspective. I'm more worried about him being handcuffed by this team's offensive philosophy. Hopefully they get the Oline all on the same page, protect their guy, and let him use his mobility to make plays.

You think the Jets can out suck the Dolphins?
