The 90’s cowboys and the Hershel Walker trade. Moving their only star at the time helped shape them into a multiple Super Bowl champion. ... that fact does not make the premise of this thread any less asinine, reactionary, or juvenile though.
Am i jumping the gun just a bit? Of course. It looks damn bleak after 2 games. But if this team doesnt show marked improvement ;not just moral victories..tangible wins by means of execution, preparation & dare i say impactful talent then we’re staring at a liquidation scenario. It will take multiple yrs to rebuild an entire OL,WR group, 2 good corners & at least one edge rusher. During that time other needs will arise & we’ll be staring at the expiration of Adams & Darnold’s contracts. It just doesnt seem like everything is lining up.
The last GM(and the GM before him) left behind quite a big mess to clean up. I don't believe we should tear it all down because of that.
Is this really a Thread ? Now that we got Falk from the Practice Squad let's send over the whole hoot and kaboodle of them and ditch/ trade all our starters ...now there's an idea
This past draft/FA period was CRITICAL in terms of trying to build a contender that can win before Adams and Darnold's rookie deals are up, and as predicted, Macc fucked it up. It will take a miracle, all things falling their way in the FA and draft to even partially make up for that disaster (and the ones preceding it of course). And that's on top of the 8+ years of this latest "rebuild". I don't think I'm the only Jets fan who is fed up with waiting. Making this situation possibly even worse is that what I've seen of the "genius" Gase, we may be looking for a new HC and CS at the end of the season or before. As I sit here and reflect, it was only about 3 weeks ago I said that this was the most optimistic I've felt about the Jets in possibly decades. And now, 3 weeks later, ot looks like another Chernobyl may be unfolding. Yes, it's only 2 games, but jeezus! 9 points of offensive scoring in 2 weeks! And all the holes completely exposed! Maybe Gase can pull his head out of his ass and turn things around - that's the very slim hope I'm grasping - but Jets history says otherwise. And please don't tell me that all those other failures were under different coaches/GMs and so I can't related that failure to this situation because you could've said that about every other failure of theirs in the past, and despite the "truth" of it, the reality of it is that failure seems to have attached itself to this franchise like skunk odor. With all that said, I'm not ready to blow it up right now, or consider trading Bell, et. al. at this point. Because if that's what they do, then we're looking at 3-4 MORE years of waiting, and there's not even any guarantee that Douglas can get it right either. The string I'm grasping is very flimsy, and if it breaks, then I'm gone until I read/hear that the Jets are contending for a SB some time in the future (If I'm still alive), at which point I'll get back on the bandwagon.
No. Of course not.Blowing it up is not anything to be done unless it's a last resort. And to your earlier point about the way to attack next year...I don't disagree..but again..we're counting on hitting every single draft pick basically to keep this ship afloat; Should we be counting on that to avoid what may be the "hard right"? I'm sincerely concerned that the foundation of this team..or lack thereof combined w. the optics(Contracts/age/personalities) of the pieces we actually have in place make this a ticking time bomb for even greater ineptitude. And thats before considering the HC situation or what he might need/prefer to fit his scheme. perhaps trading everyone is a tad extreme..but there are certain pieces that need to be considered if we can yield a pick of 2. See: Leonard Williams, Robbie Anderson. The only way to fix this is to hit on draft picks. It's impossible to hit on every one so ideally we need Lots of draft picks.
Even if things wind up as bad as you say, we're still not necessarily looking at a liquidation scenario. I disagree with the bold. Does Brady have a complete WR group? No, he doesn't and he never has. We don't have to, either. If Sam develops and Douglas fixes the OL, with Herndon, Crowder, one other good WR and a RB or two that are good receivers out of the backfield, our offense could be very good or at least akin to NE's. Between FA and the draft, if Douglas is any good at all, we should have some of those needs taken care of. He could sign a starting OL, CB and WR in FA and draft two OL and an edge rusher next offseason. The following offseason he could add another CB, another edge rusher, a couple more OL, and maybe another WR or TE, and upgrade the depth, and the Jets could be a lot better.
Trading a couple of guys who are overrated is not the same as trading legit stars like Bell and Adams.
Brady? No he doesn't. But he has functional WR's who fit their scheme & can separate. Gase runs a similar scheme..how many WR's do we have that can separate/make plays in space? Crowder & I'll include Herndon, who by the way doesn't even fit Gase's prototype for TE'S.That's it. Yeah, sure if we bring in all these pieces you allude to above we'll be in good shape. But that's a massive IF. We will again be short on draft picks & already have a numbers crunch w. roster spots vs. available cap space. There's no margin for error in terms of available resources as well as associated risk. You willing to bet on us having back to back near perfect offseasons w. what's gone on post 2010?
They don't have to be perfect. If they're anywhere close to what I listed, the team will be better. Until Douglas screws up in the draft and FA and shows that he isn't trustworthy, I have to trust him and have hope. If not, I might as well just walk away now and say the hell with the Jets and the NFL.
We should trade LeVeon Bell for a draft pick, extract the most value right now. He's not a factor in the team, slightly less skilled RBs can get the job done, and we need young talent. We should trade Gase to China
Malik Hooker is out for 6 to 8 weeks with a knee injury. We have traded with the Colts previously. Colts have an extra 2nd round pick from Washington next year (should be a high pick). They look like a very good team. For Adams: 2020 1st round pick... 2020 2nd round pick(from Washington-will probably be pick 34 to 40) Get it done Douglas. Then in the 2020 draft, pick Ferguson/Mangold-blue chip types-to begin the process of rebuilding the line...
I am not a troll sir. I just believe in building from the lines out, especially after identifying a potential franchise QB. I believe that this is a greater need than a big hitting safety.
Brook is vomiting as we speak in one of the MetLife bathrooms. I told him not to buy the season tix. Money down the toilet. Sent from my SM-G965U using Tapatalk
Ok...now Adams cancelled his radio show. This is the bye week, perfect time to get something done....
