It's not asinine. The season is clearly lost at this point, you sound like someone that has expectations for a good season still. If that's the case, I hope you're right, but from a realistic perspective, on my end, I don't see that happening. So, if that is the case, from my perspective, It doesn't matter if we move him now or later. All that matters is what we could get for the future of this team.
Yeah, this isn't a great argument. You're clearly looking at "statistics" and not actually watching what he is doing, despite all the injuries and shitty OL. He looks good, he would look so good if we actually had proper players around him.
We have a team full of holes and you want to create more holes? What would we hope to get with the draft picks we got for Adams? We’d need a safety, of course. Maybe we’d be really lucky and get one as good as him.
It is asinine. Clearly you haven’t looked around the board much and are just picking and choosing quotes to help fulfill your argument that I’m not a realistic fan or that i have some absurd expectations. From the get go I wanted this team to be competitive come December and play meaningful games those final 4-5 weeks. Obviously that isn’t going to happen this year with 14 coming down with Mono and missing a handful of games. So i completely shifted my focus to what this year was always about - making sure Sam has every tool possible to take that next step and become our guy for the next 15 years. The fact that some people want to ship off the ONLY ELITE WEAPON we have baffles the living hell out of me and is completely asinine. Like I said in another post (you would know if you actually looked and didn’t come up with these idiotic assumptions) - if you truly believe 14 isn’t the guy, then fine. Blow the entire thing up, but I am not even close to joining that train.
The are only two reason you trade anybody and it's not really complicated. 1) they are already a "net negative" and are not worth what you are paying him. 2) you can get more value in a trade. Why would you think Bell is more valuable in a trade? He is the only offensive star player at this point. You get rid of him and we will basically limit Darnold's development. Why do that at all and especially why do that until you have you idea of what this team can look like when it's somewhat complete - from a health, suspension, and OL gelling (if possible) standpoint? Do you think you would get appreciably more in a trade now than you would at the end of the season? I highly doubt that. Why would a team give up a host of draft capital to obtain someone that was a free agent that they could have picked up for "free" (and didn't) less than 6 months ago? It's not like teams didn't know that Bell was a quality player at the time, but the first two games has somehow shed some new light on the situation. No offense, but IMHO the notion of trading Bell is at this moment is a by-product of the "Jets suck and we have to do something now" mentality. To think that the compensation that the Jets could get for Bell would be more valuable than Bell himself is dubious at best.
If you have to ask this, then I seriously have to question your your ability to assess the effect of offensive line play to yards per carry statistics.
I see a roster extremely poorly constructed & taking a long range view i dont see how we’re going to get back on track under the current trajectory before these core players either leave on their own accord or breakdown from physical beating. Are we rebuilding and gelling an entire new OL while Darnold is still on his rookie deal? While Bell is still effective & under 30? What about adding WRs? Will Adams even WANNA re-up w this team?! Still need a legit edge rusher & corners that can actually cover! Thats before even talking about depth signings we’ve already suggested wont be filed due to a numbers crunch. The way i see it under this current course we either nail every single draft pick/FA signing over next 2 seasons or this thing really gets ugly & we spend ANOTHER 2 seasons liquidating this mess after the prime value has elapsed. We liquidate now while EVERYBODY has prime value(for better or worse) & build this team in a healthy logical way.Inside out or outside in. The sooner folks let go of emotional attachments & realize how bad this roster structure is..the better. This isnt getting better
Yes, let’s get rid of one of the best running backs in the league because he’s a running back and some dude doesn’t think they’re worth much anymore. I mean, it makes complete sense to strip your QB of the only offensive threat he has, right? It makes sense to strip him of the guy who might actually keep him upright on a passing play right? The Jets don’t need to score points on offense. We can let the D handle that. And we have that great new kicker, too. We can just go 3 and out on every series to preserve their energy. Make it happen Gase.
See I don't get this logic built around 2 games and a roster full of injuries/illness. The defense has been very good this year. Losing Mosley hurt and not having a shutdown corner hurts. Mosley will be back and we can get a shutdown corner in free agency, if need be. Our offense is missing our starting QB, starting TE, and now we lost one of our receivers. When Darnold is healthy we are a few offensive linemen and a #1 WR away from being a very good offense. We are set on: Quarterback Running Back Tight End Slot Receiver #2 Receiver Safety Linebacker Defensive Line We need: #1 Receiver Offensive Linemen Corner I don't see the logic behind getting rid of two pieces that we have to then try and fill them with another player who likely won't be half the players Bell and Adams are
If the QB takes the next step and becomes that elite guy, that masks a tremendous amount of holes that any roster will have. The Packers are in contention every single year because they have A Rod. You think the Pats have a complete roster? The Seahawks? The Saints? The Colts (prior to last year)? The Colts with Peyton? The Steelers? Those teams have/had what matters - the quarterback. Everything else falls in place after you find that guy and by removing his weapons you hinder his chance to grow and become that guy.
Agree x1000 If the goal is to build a "complete" roster, then you will NEVER achieve the end result we are all looking for. Every team that has won, has an elite or very good QB. They have holes all over their rosters, but they find ways to win because their QB can put players in a position to win. I remember many times people were bashing New England for their lack of receivers, offensive linemen, etc., yet they still won year after year.
Ok so rather than admit the team is dog shit lets keep our fingers crossed that Darnold can magically fix everything.Hell we dont even know if hes the answer at QB! Im seeing alot of denial. The roster fucking SUCKS!
You don't even want to give him the chance to see if he is that guy. You want to sell off every single thing on this roster. The team lacks depth - We can both agree on that but we have a GM who believes on building the roster from the trenches and out. I agree with Douglas on that, but he hasn't even had one complete off season to do what he wants. We are sucking ass right now because of the past 2 regimes were horrendous at drafting and completely clueless when it came to building a competent roster. You even said it yourself - "We don't even know if he is the answer at QB!" - wouldn't you want to find that first since you just spent a bunch of draft capital to get him? Selling off assets before even figuring out if our biggest acquisition since Sanchez is the guy is absolutely ludicrous IMO.
Every QB you mentioned won one or multiple Super bowls and some of them will be in the HOF. Not a good comparison.
Isn't that what we hope Sam Darnold is and does? Become a HOF QB and win multiple Super Bowls? What is the point of this comment?
So you would have us make the roster even worse by trading our best players away? For unknowns in the draft?
